Why all the attention on a QB who wasn't good enough to keep his job? He didn't lose his job because of his beliefs, he lost his job because the BS that came with him wasn't offset by his production on the field. If Aaron Rogers wanted to be naked for the national anthem, I'm guessing the Packers would somehow find a way to make it acceptable. BTW, he turned down an offer from the Broncos last year so not sure how 'believing in something' has cost him 'everything'. He believes he's a starting QB and won't accept a backup role (and salary) but his stats tell a vastly different story.

Up until about 3 days ago, the local stations here in Denver spent a ridiculous amount of time discussing Paxton Lynch's future or lack thereof with the Broncos. A guy who was trying to become the 3rd string QB. I put all this attention Kap is getting in the same category: much ado about nothing. And Nike's stock lost $3.5 billion in market cap the first day the market opened after the announcement.

In before the lock...

Nike is a politically correct organization in a PC part of the country. What they did with having Kap as the face of their latest marketing campaign is no surprise.

I bought new athletic shoes a few weeks ago, and I’m glad they weren’t Nike. As a soon to be 53 year old, I’m probably not in their core target demographic. My wife and my son will likely continue to buy Nike products.

CK got over 38 million for his one year of new contract.
CK is suing for more.
CK is making as much for Nike as he would at QB.
Nike was for over a decade one if the worst offenders of sweat shops and child labor.
Nike is currently under scrutiny for child labor, sweat shop labor, and in the US underpaying women

As a active duty veteran, I will still wear Nike before anything else when it comes to athletic wear. CK is a has been, and all y’all publicly swearing Nike and catching shoes on fire and what not are giving him more attention than he deserves.

A good discussion can be had on this topic. I hope we can avoid an out of control clown show.

From Nike's standpoint, they did this to make the news now even if it meant taking a hit in the short term financially. They are a multi-billion dollar global corporation, in the long run, they will not crash and cease to exist because of a politically charged campaign.

"Well, a lot of people are going to stop buying Nike..."

Sure, but this is where generational demographics and targeted marketing strategy comes in. If you think Nike did not exhaustively research this, you're wrong. A decision like this isn't made overnight, it is thought out and planned over a year or so. It's also important to realize, Nike is not the only major company who was planning on having Kap in some sort of marketing campaign.

Who buys Nike? A good chunk of their customer base is younger folks. Always has been. Which demographic is moving off of its peak buying power and onto a fixed income? Which demographic is moving into peak buying power, and will remain the key demographic in terms of consumption for the next 20-30+ years?

We all know the answer to these questions. This is not to say every millennial and generation z is a liberal social justice warrior, Nike fan, or even a sports fan. Nor am I trying to say Nike is going to skyrocket in terms of stock and finance once those major groups of people reach peak buying power. However, I am saying this is a move to stay relevant.

Also, as people in the news world have pointed out Nike has some issues at home and abroad that they need to atone for. Their record with labor conditions isn't great, and recently they've been accused with some workplace shortcomings. So, what to do if you're a Nike executive? Well, some social-political PR points with a certain crowd may pay off and throw the bloodhounds off your scent.

Would like to end by saying I am not a Nike loyalist. Just trying to look at this big picture without a lot of emotion motivated by personal politics or beliefs.

So as long as someone has a right to do something, no one else has a right to be upset at the motivation?

He isn’t being arrested, nor is anyone calling for it, but just as he has a right to protest, so does everyone else.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m not upset with CK at all. If he wants to show what little intelligence he has, I’m all for him putting it on public display.

He was an idealistic, voracious reader who often struggled with the meaning of military service and considered moral conviction a high virtue, said Jon Krakauer, the author of “Where Men Win Glory,” a biography of Tillman.

"Pat would have found Kaepernick an extremely admirable person for what he believed in,” Krakauer told The Washington Post. “I have no doubt if he was in the NFL today, he would be the first to kneel. So there is irony about what is going on.”

A soldier kneel for the anthem? I have no doubt he wouldn't. See everyone can speculate what someone else might do but the thing is he isn't around to see what he would do because he did sacrifice all.

Were you all as offended, outraged and protesting Nike when Tim Tebow did the same thing in 2012 to protest abortion rights? Asking for a friend.

If so, you really shouldn't have Nike attire to burn or give away now, and you should have already been boycotting them. And, if not, why does this offend you so much more?

Also, do you think the Nike attire being burnt or destroyed might be of better use being donated to homeless or struggling vets that would gladly wear it?
It's far more disrespectful to burn attire they need and could legitimacy make good use out of, than anything Kaepernick is doing.

I think that Nike likely could use Tillman as the role model, but they might also be limited and might not want to do that because at the time Tillman played Reebok was the sole provider of NFL apparel. So, they wouldn't want to use, or promote, images of Tillman wearing Reebok apparel to promote Nike apparel.

Fake news on Tebow. Also, Tillmans wife never said Tillman would kneel during the anthem. She simply said he would support their right to speak even if he disagreed.

That's what he claims now, but I'm pretty sure there is evidence to support the contrary. Regardless, why is his first amendment right to freedom of religion more protected than Kaepernick's right to free speech? Why the added outrage?

As far as I know Tebow never took a knee, prayed, or promoted pro-life during the anthem. This is very important in the discussion of comparing and contrasting Tebow v Kap.

It is also very important to remember that Tebow did get criticized for his kneeling, being very open about religion and his stance on abortion.

Very much like Kap, at some point front offices decided that the circus just wasn't worth having around for a back up QB.

Both guys took stances on things, both guys caused a circus, both guys are out of the league. It is crucial to understand that when race starts to pop up. The NFL couldn't afford to have a white, religious, back up QB causing a fuss either.
