A common “concern” with NIL was that players somehow wouldn’t know how to file taxes (somehow ignoring that pretty much every other 18 year in the country has to figure it out too).

How are the players earning NIL during the overseas trip going to be impacted?
I would assume they’ll have to file both US and with the country they earn the money in?
What’s the Spanish tax situation for foreigners? Do they need a work visa because they’ll specifically earning money while there?

Is the juice worth the squeeze considering the additional hoops they’ll have to jump through?

Easy solution, make a detour through some random country like Albania, get paid, don’t pay taxes, never go back.

(Not a tax accountant) NIL is not payment for playing basketball -so, unlike NBA Pro's that must pro-rate their games in Toronto to pay taxes- College players are "earning" the NIL money by granting rights to Name Image Likeness. It's like a payment for an endorsement.
Most foreign players do not have work permits and so cannot receive NIL payments. Makes them look relatively more attractive once NIL headaches get dumped in coaches laps.

My work took me on an occasional trip abroad. I never paid foreign income taxes.

I've done the same.
But I wasn't working for a foreign entity when doing they or performing work.

I was still working for my US employer - just in a different office.
I wasn't being paid by our Spain office.

That's not really my point or question.
I know Clif can't receive income while in the US.

But apparently he can while overseas.
My question whiles he's overseas earning NIL - won't he have to pay taxes in Portugal?
If "Portgual ABC Corp" give Clif $5k for "NIL", won't he have to report that?
And then report that to the US as well?

Even if the NIL payment is shelled out in 30 weekly payments (the pre-season season, post season), it is not salary. It is not true to say 1/30th was earned in Portugal even if 1/30 of the payment is recognized that week. If I hired a player to be a general spokesperson for my brand for the 30 week season, that's a different story. That would be 1/30th earned in Portugal and subject to tax.
