Said the scout: "I love Jerrell as a person, but he really hasn't
changed much since he was at Wayne County. He'll get drafted because
he's so big and strong. It's the finer points of the game is what he
hasn't taken to, how to use your hands and how to get off blocks. He has
helped himself since the season, but he really had a bad season last
year. Frankly, I see him more as a piece of the puzzle than a disruptive
force."

he recieved at UM. The guy is a physical beast and I really thought he would end up being a special player but it just didn't happen. I think the article was a good one and it supports some of the arguments we get in about highly rated players. Stars are important but they certainly are not fool proof and talent is only a part of the puzzle to being successful. You need talent but just importantly you need drive, dedication, good coaching, coachability, and luck. This is why I have become less concerned about recruiting stars. I trust Mullen and company to get the players that they think they can win with and at the end of the day that is what matters.

It's not just about the stars or getting the right players to fill your needs, but I think the best thing Mullen and his staff do involves player development. Look at Relf, for instance. He has improved so much in a couple of years. I would argue that Dixon improved a lot as well. Arceto Clark.... The list goes on.

This is actually my main beef with Stansbury because our basketball players seem to get worse during their time at State. Stans could outrecruit Mullen, but Mullen ends up with better players comparatively in the long run.
