However I'm getting mixed scores for the Westmoreland/Colonial Beach game
One score has it 55-36 in favor of Beach however I had also heard that the game got called with a minute to go in the first with Westmoreland leading 36-0

I got confirmation that it did get called with a minute to go in the first with no reason given. I'm gonna go ask around on what happened

JMU traveled to Norfolk State and was whipping them in the first half when lightning delayed the game. Rather than drag it out, both teams agreed to call it there and the game score became final.

36-0 in favor of Westmoreland is being reported around these neck of the woods however MaxPreps and ScoreStream is still listing 55-36 in favor of Beach

Yeah, respectfully, I don’t see any way that the drifters could have scored 55 unless they literally threw to that one receiver every play.

So it should go down as a forfeit then? We are splitting hairs here yes, but the final score can’t be the actual result of the game if this is indeed the reason why the game was called. And Colonial Beach couldn’t stick it out another minute? Or the coaches couldn’t agree to take knees to make the game official? Pathetic. I hate this making up the rules as we go stuff.

Well I certainly wouldn’t think that the VHSL would show leadership here, so I guess as usual…the inmates will continue to run the asylum.

The rule states:


Games interrupted because of events beyond the control of the responsible administrative authority shall be continued from the point of interruption, unless the teams agree to terminate the game with the existing score, or as otherwise provided for by state association adoption.

I don’t care one way or the other. I just wasn’t understanding what rule you were referencing. And I still don’t, since the rule you quoted provides an out for both teams to agree to terminate with the existing score.

But beyond that, is the rub that they aren’t completing the game? Or that they didn’t make it to halftime before calling it?

Could a knee have been taken to finish of the quarter sure if a coach was more worried about being technical. When CB only has 3 coaches on staff and several players out with season ending injuries and 1 coach could be seen giving a concussion run down and another was looking at a kid who had a leg injury I think the head coach made the right call manned up because CB may be small but the team does have pride walked across the field talked to refs and HC from Westmoreland and called it. Wish more kids played for the school but that is the reality and challenges the school has.
