MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (December 14, 2024) – The No. 18 West Virginia University wrestling team enters its first Big 12 matchup of the season against California Baptist in a special off-campus dual at Oak Glen High School in New Cumberland, West Virginia, on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m. ET. Live Stats from the dual will be available through Trackwrestling, while fans can also purchase tickets for $7 by contacting Oak Glen High. “Being at Oak Glen is cool. It’s a neat thing for fifth-year senior Peyton Hall who’s really been a huge part in rebuilding our program,” seventh-year WVU coach Tim Flynn said. “The one thing that we’ve been working on is trying to stay mentally focus for the entire seven-minute match as I think we have really good wrestlers, but we haven’t been able to put together complete matches.” Sunday’s dual marks the first meeting between West Virginia and California Baptist in history, following CBU’s transition to Division I from Division II to begin the 2018-2019 season and later earning affiliate membership status with the Big 12 to start the 2022-2023 campaign. Coach Dereke Moore leads the Lancers in his third season at the helm after spending four seasons as an assistant from 2017-2022, before transitioning to interim head coach in May of 2022 and moving to the position full time four months later. Since taking over, Moore has guided the program into the Big 12 Conference, earning its first-ever ranked victory over No. 19 Air Force as well as the program’s first two NCAA qualifiers during the 2024 campaign. In the latest polls, West Virginia makes its seventh straight appearance in the top 25 of the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll, remaining at No. 18 for the third consecutive week. Six Mountaineers also remain in the sixth edition of FloWrestling’s rankings, including No. 14 Jordan Titus (141), No. 3 Ty Watters (149), No. 3 Peyton Hall (165), No. 29 Brody Conley (174), No. 26 Dennis Robin (184) and No. 31 Austin Cooley (197).
