Byrne says this improves the atmosphere. I wonder about that.

I think we as students should go crazy about this because we lost some good seats just so they can make some more money. I dont want to look down the court all game. I liked being able to watch the game from where I was. I know they are trying to make more money, but they could be a little more discrete about it.

Way to give the students the shaft. Don't give me some patronizing crap about it improving the atmosphere. It's about money. Be a man and say it.

It's about money, but at the same time, it does make it more difficult on the opponents, because the students can heckle a lot better from the ends of the court than from the center.

for bulldog club members; however, it could actually improve atmosphere as well. Now the students could harrass opponents trying to shoot free throws on both ends...

Having sat in 109 and 110 a few times, I've had a good view of the court, and unlike the previous setup you'll have students more involved on both ends. One thing I noticed though on the new chart, what happened to section F4? It's not there for this season?

The students still get the same amount of lower level tickets, just got moved around some. I've always thought that the students, even when i was one not too long ago, had unbelievably good seats. There's really not a bad seat in the hump, and as long as ticket sizes haven't been reduced I see no problem with it. Especially cause the games are FREE.

How does splitting the one section that makes noise the whole game improve atmosphere? Are there any plans to revert to the old football stadium divided student section to improve atmosphere?

F4 wasn't there last year. It became media row when it was taken out for the court side seats. The majority of people that sat their was the pom squad, cheerleaders, and a few rowdies.

our Athletic Department does. Having the students behind both goals is a good thing and yes, it will improve the atmosphere. Money probably has something to do it, too, but don't most schools have the students sit behind the goals? I think it's a good move.

I doubt there are many big-time basketball programs that give their students 1/4 of the best seats in the house.

Having the students right beside the court is the primary thing that makes the Hump a hard place to play. There are plenty of other SEC arenas with more seating, but their students are in the ends or in the rafters, and it's just not as effective.
I'm no longer eligible for student tickets, and I still think this is BS.

1) We aren't Duke.

2) What is the percentage of students seats in CIS? I'm betting its less than the students get a the Hump.

3) I'm betting the last thing Duke is worried about is money for the basketball program, because again (no 1.) it's Duke, and also there new practice facility is probably one of the best in the country.

Students get free courtside tickets. I have to shell out $1000 for 4 tickets in the nose bleeds. It will bother our opponents more and look better on TV with the students going nuts behind the goal. Look around at many of the top basketball schools and you won't see many with students sitting at center court.

To clarify my previous statement, I'm more opposed to the student section being split than getting the mid-court seats taken away.

i think the "primary thing" that makes the hump a hard place to play, is the players on our team...not some clowns who wear maron wigs and paint their chests.

But I agree. It sucks. The thing I won't like about it is seeing the BC members in 105-108 sitting on their hands during TV games. Hate on the Rowdies all you want, but they were there, they were up, they were loud.

I don't know about total seats, but the students also went down in total sections in the upper deck from 9 to 8. Lower level stayed the same at 6. The additional section turned into BC members.

On second thought, you and I are so low on the totem pole that my seats probably won't change. I have been in 236 the last two years. Won't be there this year obviously. I am guessing I'll be in 220 or 235.

I know HD6 will be happy about this move....

The move to both corners is good. Spread the energy around the stadium a little but.

this straight, you think the "primary" reason state has a good basketball team is because of the student section...really? no, really?

Students can only have so many tickets, which I know that was the case at Indiana-- one of my cousins graduated from there.

Edited to correct comment re: subject heading: No undergraduate student ticket lottery at Duke. There is one at Indiana though.

because I hate taking my time to explain things 10 times... We're talking about home court advantage here. I said the student section is what makes the hump a hard place to play. And you come back with... the team is what makes the hump a hard place to play? wtf? I mean yeah, it would be an easier place for opponents to play if we didn't have a team I guess. But seeing as how we take the same team to road games i'm not sure what that has to do with home field advantage.

It is not like we have 3000 students making noise and 7000 fans sitting there eating the stale nachos. The real home court advantage comes in when the team is playing well and the ENTIRE Hump gets to rocking. Granted some of the older fans sit there like knots on a log but it is more than just the students making noise. If you get some new blood down there courtside then they will probably be just as loud as the students are.

I think familiarity with the background is one of the more underrated parts of a home court advantage in basketball. Yes, the fans play a role, and the atmosphere plays a role, but being familiar with your shooting background is another big advantage that other sports don't have.

I count 12 lower level sections in the old plan and 12 in the new plan for BC members. The knots just got better seats. New blood will still be in the upper deck.

I can't stand seeing the big donors get 8 tickets in the lower level and then never showing up. They should cut it back to a 4 ticket max for everyone and that would open up some new possibilities in the lower sections.
