and much more tech savvy than me but I’d like to see a Egg Bowl upset list of games where the overwhelming underdog won whether it was State or om and whether it was home game vs away game.
Finding the winners of all games is easy but I’m looking or 10 points or better underdogs that won outright.

I’m not sure there is going to be much there when you go that big of an underdog. There have for sure been some surprises, and many have been closer than expected. But I don’t think there have been as many as we think when it’s been a huge mismatch. I’m thinking 08, 94 come to mind as counter examples. 64 may be one. Of course the lopsided w-L record came because we won 4 times in like 34 years after WW2.

ETA Imagine the meltdown now if we won 4 out of 34. Kinda feels like we are headed there, but at least I won’t be around for those last few. 😀

We opened as 17 point favorites in 2017 at home and lost. 17. This was the Fitzgerald injury game, think we would have pulled this one off if he didn't get hurt. Keytaon was a turnover machine and still only lost by 3

If I recall correctly, we were 14 or 14.5 point favorites at home in 2017.

GPT only had two "confirmed" 7+ upsets

there are only two Egg Bowls since 1945 where a confirmed 7-plus-point underdog won outright and I can find a specific spread number:

YearUnderdogFavoriteFinal scoreDocumented spread
1978Ole MissMississippi StateOle Miss 27 – MSU 7Ole Miss +8 (8-point underdogs) Ole Miss Athletics - Hotty Toddy
2017Ole MissMississippi StateOle Miss 31 – MSU 28Ole Miss +14 (MSU a 14-point favorite, per Vegas Insider) The Oxford Eagle+1

but....

Based mostly on media-lists of “biggest upsets” in rivalry history.

YearWinner & Final ScoreWhy It’s a Candidate – Upset Context / Magnitude
1970Mississippi State 19–14 over Ole MissOle Miss was ranked (top-10 earlier that year), with a 7-1 record; State came in off three straight heavy losses — considered a major upset. Saturday Down South
1992Ole Miss 17–10 over Mississippi StateBoth teams ranked; Ole Miss was lower-ranked (or underdog) — counted among the “10 biggest upsets” in Egg Bowl history. Saturday Down South
1997Ole Miss 15–14 over Mississippi StateClose game; considered an upset given relative records and context. Saturday Down South+1
2000Ole Miss 45–30 over Mississippi StateState was ranked at the time; the result is listed among the biggest upsets in rivalry history. Saturday Down South+1
2009Mississippi State 41–27 over Ole MissOle Miss entered the game ranked and with a strong record, State had been bad: result widely called a major underdog win. Saturday Down South+1
2012Ole Miss 41–24 over Mississippi StateBulldogs were ranked (#25) and had a good record (8-3); Rebels were underdogs — game appeared on major-upset lists. Saturday Down South+1
2014Ole Miss 31–17 over Mississippi StateState came in with a 10-1 record and #4 ranking (one of their best ever); the result is widely regarded as a heaping upset. Saturday Down South+1
2017Ole Miss 31–28 over Mississippi StateBulldogs had 8-3 record, were favored — games recaps describe it as a significant upset in rivalry context. Sa

We aren't headed there now. State was god awful for most of that, and we really didn't have any money. There was almost no support. I barely remember the very end of it.

That wasn't an injury. It was an assault.
Assault indeed. Rumor was that there was a $10K hit contract on Fitz which I heard about several days before the game.
