Your first point makes the rest of it DOA. Not because I think Cincinnati (certainly) and Memphis (not really) could be useful additions, they would be. What is the problem is that like it or not, believe it or not, Texas runs expansion. To add 2 new members, one of them has to be inside Texas and thus a command vote for the Texas Cabal. Looking around in Texas you can find only two arguable choices, Houston and SMU. SMU has never recovered from its dark days and it does not look like they ever will. Houston. Do we really want to go there to get to 12? Before some get started that this is an anti-Dana concern on my part. It isn't. I think his days would be numbered trying to perform to expectations with Houston in the Big-12 - far worse than his resources at WVU. My problem is that Houston of today has a lot in common with SMU of yesterday. More and more of that is going in all across the college football landscape, but Houston seems to be one of those vanguard schools acting on it like a fully fledged SEC member. If everyone in the conference voted for Houston and Cincinnati, I think we would go to 12 tomorrow. But, not making the 11th choice either Houston or SMU, makes the whole exercises DOA. Also to be considered is how this is going to play out for WVU. Texas and their 5 partners will certainly, form a division, it just makes too much sense. The other schools will form the other division. That means Morgantown will not Texas except every 4th year unless they make the CCG. WVU will only see any of those schools from the division, once every fourth year in Morgantown. Is that acceptable? We would play 8 games and suddenly need to find a filler for that current 9th conference game. That usually has a price tag. So another loss, even if it is a rent-a-win. It would be a way to Pitt or VT permanently however, provided either of those institutions thought it was a good idea.
