This is very common in Mississippi. A school will look you straight in the face and tell a parent they aren’t qualified to homeschool their kid.

While this isn't acceptable, homeschooling should also be a last resort option if you can't find even a half decent private school to send a kid to.

Any idea what’s on that exam? It’s lot more than Algebra I. I’ve seen engineers struggle to pass it. While it would be great to fill the schools with teachers who can ace that test the first time, the reality is that that is a tall ask for $42000 a year.

The PRAXIS exam is no where close to what Engineers take.

It was either homeschool or private school for us. I was homeschooled until 7th grade and wife went all the way through homeschooled and got her good ‘nuff degree. Now she has her masters and I’m working on mine while also having got my commission, become certified in 3 army helicopters and 4 GA airplanes.
Never understood people who downplay homeschooling….its light years better than the gutter trash in public school. It also shows parents legitimately involved with the children they’ve had and not just waiting on the next overnight camp during summertime.

Comparing homeschooling to the gutter trash in public school is a hilariously low bar.
Oh wow, it's better than the worst versions of public school- cool.

Meanwhile, quality public schools offer a breadth and depth of educational opportunities which can't be touched by almost any private schools, much less homeschools.
Countless AP classes, legitimately good CTE classes, and a wide range of foreign languages with teacher who both challenge and support students.

I do think that homeschooling is an excellent choice in some situations. Some.

I always knew you were alright. We disagreed too much to be message board enemies. Turns out we agree about good bit. You may not like that.

And to be fair, even though their parents can’t pass the praxis, homeschooled students consistently outperform public school students on the SAT and ACT average.

I winder how many of these home school parent could pass that test.
Well, don't "winder" about my household. My wife graduated with a 4.0 and killed the praxis on the first try. She's certified K-12, and certified to teach any math there is in that range. She homeschools my children. She used to teach in public schools until the kids were old enough to go to school. She refused to put them in public, and there are no good private schools in the area. My daughter currently has a 31 on her ACT. They're doing fine. My kids are light years ahead of their peers when it comes to which subjects they're taking in which grade. My daughter makes extra money tutoring math to PS kids who are older than her.

Who better to trust their kids with all day than their parents? Public school has become a free baby sitting service. Home schoolers can do what public school does for 8 hours in 2
80% of the parents in this country couldn't give their child an education any better than the shlttiest public schools. Good on you if you think you can. There are plenty of great school districts in this state that provide quality education.

How do you make up for 13 years worth of growing up in a bubble and minimal social interaction? Playdates with other homeschooled kids doesn't count.

Kids need to interact with people from all kinds of backgrounds, both good and bad. Otherwise you are giving them zero social skills and the real world will be a complete culture shock that they have zero experience with.

Get rid of the unions
Why?

If the answer is that bad teachers are too protected, that is a failing of the Administrators for poor documentation of issues.

Unions help ensure decent compensation, safe working conditions, teacher input on curriculum, and help reduce turnover(which is both costly and hurts education quality).
Unions also help protect teachers from vindictive admin and parents.

Basically, things that individual teachers wouldn't be able to rely on, unions help ensure they happen.

Countless brainwashing classes, CRT classes, and a wide range of teachers who both intimidate conservative and support woke liberal students.

I do think that homeschooling is an excellent choice in some situations. Some, where reading, writing and arithmetic take priority over woke, social justice reeducation camps.

Or if you believe in freedom of choice, it should come at whatever time a parent makes the decision to home school if that time ever comes.

You didn't fix anything.

Quality public schools don't brainwash students in AP classes. I mean come on now, did your even think that through before making your cute little edits? AP Chem isn't brainwashing. AP Bio isn't brainwashing. AP Gov isn't brainwashing.

And quality public schools don't just intimidate conservative students by default or just blindly support 'woke' liberal students.

Where do you come up with this insanity?
I said 'quality public schools' and you childishly change my post to misrepresent things.
That is lame.

I have a corncob up my butt because I think it is lame that you changed my post and because I think your changes are incorrect?

You claimed AP classes are brainwashing and that quality schools intimidate conservative students simply because they are conservative.

Just don't post stupid shít and I won't respond like that.
