No one is talking about Relf's play as a QB..

Past two games he's played excellent:<div>512yards, 3TD, 1INT and around 160ish yards rushing a TD</div><div>
</div><div>These extra practices for Relf should be great for his development. He's only made a few poor decisions in the past two games, he's going through his progressions, he's looking off receivers, and on most of his incompletions he's making the right reads. It was good to see him barely miss Bumphis and then come back and hit that play. Relf has really impressed me the past two games. Hopefully he will be greatly improved for the bowl game and going into next year. These extra practices should benefit Russell a tremendous amount as well and also all the young players. Getting to a bowl is huge for us and for teams to get those extra practices. Relf may be our biggest beneficiary.</div>

....things are starting to fall in place for him. Gotta give him credit. He has done a solid job in the passing game, especially the last two weeks. Maybe some of this has to do with better WR play, but still you gotta find the open man and get the ball to him. Glad you brought this topic up. Kudos, Chris. Go Dawgs!!!

Of course you have to throw that in there. Seriously, I hope TR ends up being good. I think if he went throughout the whole season he woulda had pretty good numbers, he's just a FR and isn't ready yet. The personnel we currently have makes Relf the best QB for us bc of his toughness and running ability. In the future I hope TR develops into a good QB for us and also Dak and Favre.

times, but I agree with your assessment. It also helps to play bad secondaries. However, he didn't look great against some other pretty average secondaries this year.

I wanted Tyler Russell at the beginning of the year, and I wanted him to play more during the year. That said, you'll get no complaint from me. I'm a Mississippi State fan, not a Tyler Russell fan. Chris Relf has been fantastic the past 2 games. He's still done things that make me want to scream, but he's more than made up for them. Mullen has done a tremendous job with him, and hopefully that will continue. I still think it will be a competition in the spring, and I could see Russell improving enough to give Relf a run for his money. But at this point, I feel a lot more confident in Relf than I did. He has made the plays we've needed him to make.<div>
</div><div>I love that we're working some screens in now. Perkins is built for those type of plays, and it will really help Relf to have that option. Again, kudos to Relf and Mullen. I never thought, when we recruited Relf up until the beginning of this year, he would be the QB of an 8-4 team playing this kind of competition. He has done a great job of maximizing his ability.</div>

In the 2008 Egg Bowl, he was throwing at some WR not named Bumphis. Bump is the only WR in the area, so he catches it and makes a couple circus jukes and scores. Relf even says in the post game he was throwing at somebody else...who was at least 10 yards away from Bumphis.

Today, he's not the same QB at all. He is light years ahead of where he was last year. If he makes another jump this off-season he might be a legitimate dual threat SEC-caliber QB. I say he might be dual threat because right now, he's a runner that can throw some passes occasionally. He might develop into a guy who's just as big a threat either running or passing.

all season next year, russell should only see mop up duty.

the Alabama and Florida games were hard to watch though. If the coaching staff is going to refuse to let him throw, then it really dampens our offensive abilities. I'd rather lose playing like we did against arkansas than the way we did against Bama. It looked like we went into that game knowing there was no way we could win so we just tried to run clock.

all that to say: I'm all for him playing all meaningful downs next year provided we will use him as a QB (and he continues to handle the role well) instead of as an extra RB.

because after we played other games we have threads hammering him about his play- but none of these guys mention when he does well.

you add no value to the conversation.

go back to your website that seems to be following in your coaching career's footsteps (failure).

in a thread I started called Happy Egg Bowl thoughts from Todd that talked about how well Relf played.

You may have missed it.
