No Rea, Renfroe, or Porter in the starting lineup today.

Lineup will be Frazier, Bradford, Slauter at DH, Norris, Pirtle, Henderson, Detz, Armstrong, Ammirati.

If we can score enough runs to win today with that lineup I will be impressed. Obviously Cohen cares about winning, but this seems like one of those games to see what he's got in some of these guys. If we win we win, if we lose we lose. Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

If Renfroe is healthy there is no logical reason to not play him every game. These guys don't need days off and when hosting is a goal every win counts.

Big difference between a 60 game baseball season and a 12 game football season.

You can do it in baseball because you've got a ton of games, which is why I'm not a big depth guy in football unless we are winning big. We aren't really on the verge of not making a regional in baseball so we can afford to sit guys like Renfroe to keep them fresh. 4 game weekend and this is the perfect day to sit him. Got hit a couple times this weekend and we want to see what Armstrong can do, as well as the team as a whole without the big hitters in the middle.

Like I said in my initial post, this seems like the kind of game where Cohen wants to see what newer guys can step up and make some things happen today. This game is mostly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. We took 3 this weekend, like most have said poll rankings don't matter, and we get to see young guys play and see what they can do. Renfroe is locked in pretty well right now so him sitting doesn't concern me.

Renfroe did take a pitch off of his wrist yesterday and is wearing a brace today.

Doubt it's anything serious, but Cohen is probably just being careful.

Ok that explains it. When every win is important you don't put him on the bench

It was more of a shot at C34 than anything but I still disagree. I completely understand your point.

See there Will James, I agreed to disagree and can drop it.

Plus I agree with you.

This post will go down in SPS history.

You mean when Mullen went 7-0 to start the season? I think that is doing it pretty well. Our losses later in the season had nothing to do with who he played earlier in the season.

Well played.

And I can see your point as well. If there were two guys on this team that probably should never sit, it's Frazier and Renfroe. Most important guys on this team and it's probably not even close. But I can understand him sitting today just so Cohen can see what he's got in the outfield. We've got a ton of guys that can play out there and that is a really nice problem to have.

Now I have heard it all. So you are having your cake and eating too again.

You claimed we were building depth to make us better and give our starters a rest. Giving our guys a rest would help us later in the season in a difficult SEC schedule. Clearly it didn't work as you thought and now you claim it didn't matter (when you said the rest would matter). Our starters needed the reps period. End of discussion.

sorry for the thread hijack. Was really just enjoying busting C34's balls for some posts back in the fall (building depth, holding back offensively, etc.). Nice distraction from bnting

WE didnt get our *** beat at the end of the year because we had tired starters, injured starters, or anything of the sort. We lostbecause those teams were much better than us. It didnt matter how many more reps they got-our DL wasnt going to stop the four teams that beat us. We didnt need more reps to throw against those teams- it didnt matter.

Resting people had zero to do with us losing. But it did allow us to have our best players healthy and ready to go- regardless of the results.

You left out the best part...

...my favorite part of Coach34 2012 Football Season was the claim Mullen was not running his full playbook against the wimps; Mullen was holding back & hiding his good stuff until the tough stretch arrives. Then when the tough stretch arrived, Mullen didn't run a single new play. That will always be my coach34 favorite of Coach34 2012 Football Season.

If you're comparing handling a football team to handling a baseball team- you really need to go no further.

Those same starters that needed the reps looking completely...

confused during the end of the season proves me right. We may not have won regardless but the unreal amount of immaturity of our starters was baffling. Thinking that group didn't need the reps is absurd.

So rotate Henderson Armstrong and Robson in left. Or put em in with a big lead. I ain't putting Mike Trout II on the pine

i really like renfroe's game...other than hitting off his front foot a majority of the time. but he is far from mike trout right now.

Not close in talent but with our personnel he has the five tool skill set that nobody comes close to matching, similar to Trout. Point being he should never sit if healthy.
