No Rice/ Rita chatter?

Rita’s punter is unreal. The Mustangs put up a hell of a fight and I feel like the Crusaders read a few too many of their press clippings.

Overall, Rice’s defense looked good. They let up one TD, but came up with a couple of timely turnovers. Rita scored a special teams TD on a kick return (same play they had a big return on in 2006 against the Crusaders).

Rice’s offense was fine, but could not get the passing game going. They did make some crucial first downs towards the end of the game. A tough CCL win by Rice, but hats off to the Mustangs.

Not much to say from a Mustang fan’s point of view. If you find my post in August in the lead up to the JCA game, I said this team had the ability to go 8-1 but could go 1-8.

Last night was just SR’s season in a nutshell. Left 10 points on the field with block FG and a turnover inside the 6 yard line. Go down the line starting at game 2 vs Richards all the way through last night’s game, not scoring/finishing in the red zone will be the story for the year. I’m sure the coaches have the correct number but I can remember 9 trips inside, not just the red zone, but inside the 10 that resulted in 0 points. Can’t win that way.

I wouldn’t look too much into the score last night. My prediction in CCL weekly thread was BR 28 SR 15. Score ended up 21-14. Take that Gambletron. I knew it’d be a tough game and BR was plenty tough enough to win. They scored on two well designed and executed big plays, a QB look off to a back side slant to their stud WR for 75 and a QB inside zone read and I don’t even think it was a read, more like action to the edge but QB knew he was keeping it from the snap and kept it he did for 85 yards. BR last score was set up by their D and finished by their O.

Like I mentioned before, don’t be fooled by the score. BR is an excellent team and deserve their top 5 status. They played a good SR team that laid it all on the line. SR is 1-5 and with less breakdowns could be 5-1 so I don’t want to hear what’s wrong with BR. They faced a rival that gave them all they could handle and came out with a win. Coaches love those kind of wins, the message gets learned that you can’t take anything for granted but don’t have to take the loss to learn it.

As a Mustang fan, this obviously sucks but I like what someone posted after an earlier loss by SR. I don’t know who said it (McCaravan?) but it read, “2 years ago It was MCs year to have the rough year and last years was BR’s” and this year it’s SR year in the box.

I’d love to see the SR team finish off the year strong and to be like that 2016 MC team. That team went on to win the prep bowl and then to semifinal of state last year. What I liked about that 2016 MC year was if you saw them in the prep bowl playoffs (SR beat them 31-28 during the season and got smoked by them in the prep bowl playoffs 33-0), you wondered how that team ever lost a game that season. That’s what I hope for the SR season is that they play it out that way, that a CCL lifer can look at them in November and say wow, how’d that team ever lose a game this season.

To the Mustang fan, I say hold steady, if they can finish the year strong, it’d be great for the program. The CCL lifers know what SR has at the lower levels. The pain of this year is rough for all involved, especially for the seniors but if they can start the turn around for the program next week and through the end of the season like the 2016 MC team, they will have the program arrow looking up with what’s coming on deck.

To the BR fans and team, that was a great HS football game last night. Good luck the rest of the season, that is an excellent team you have even though you’ll have to hear “what happened” all week long and you shouldn’t. Football happened, 15-18 year olds happened. A great, fun, tough game happened. Congratulations on your well earned victory.

Rock thanks for the info. I took on temporary employment and may miss the entire season thru Black Friday. Hard to get Friday night info in Dallas or Fort Collins CO. Never be able to catch Dr. Grieco now. In a nutshell what I’m hearing is the varsity offense has the skill players but the OL is undersized and they cant keep drives going. Kuska has kids are playing their hearts out but the kids on the OL should be playing LB. Nobody has blown them out just a couple of linemen short. There is a talent with size in the lower levels. Is that a fair appraisal?

TL good to hear from you.

Speaking of Doc, he attended his 590th straight St. Rita game last night. What a great Ritaman.

Size at the lower levels is decent to very good, better than recent years, Freshman pretty big, 3 Frosh OL starting on undefeated Soph team.

Now they have to see where the local teams are and dedicate themselves to live inside the new fitness center. And that’s another thing, I’m throwing out the rubber bands and yoga mats and ordering up a truckload of sewer caps, car load of chalk and get back to owning the LOS.:D

Come back soon safe and healthy!

I just re-read my post and laughed. I start off saying “Not much to say” and then proceed to post a novella.

Forgive me, it’s been a tough season.
We went through this last season. That’s still a tough team you guys have, you’ll be back soon enough!

I picked it to be a close game - Rice O play calling was a little suspect. Gotta feel for the Rita QB - back from an injury and also playing both ways. Not easy. Wilson is a great player for Rita. They lose a lot on D (I think 9 of 11 starters are Srs) But then again maybe that's not a bad thing. Rita has a must win against Larry to salvage some neighborhood and recruiting pride. I think they will beat Larry

I tip my hat to Reeters. They kept it close, only lost by 7 and covered a 28 point spread. They kept their rep for playing tough even in a game everyone knew they would lose. I thought Rice would roll. I was wrong.

What was so suspect regarding the play calling in your opinion?

I think they went with the pass too much. Had some times they were controlling line of scrimmage and went with pass instead - granted there were 2 drops but there were also 3 sacks allowed. I think it took em out of some key drives. When you have a line that outweighs the DLine by a ton you pound it until they stack the box - we didn't

2 drops? More like 5 drops and most of them would of moved the chains.
They did when it counted in the 4th quarter.
Two rusher over 120yds
They passed 24 times.
It's ok to be content sometimes

All Brother rice had to do was watch the JCA game against Rita. Ran all over them.

I have been overly negative toward Rice's game management in the past but I will tell you it was masterful in the Providence game. They seem to be content to just win games this year. I think the CCL is down this year and Rice is up and it's paying off.
