This is great news! I hope we can get Davis, Shepard, and CC all to campus. However I hear that C. Powers is gone regardless of what round he is drafted in.

The problem with Polk's signees was that very few of them were even drafted at all. If Cohen's recruiting class doesn't produce a handful of mid-to-late round draftees then that won't be a real good sign either.

according to Ole Miss' athletic website, only 1 player that saw significant time in the field or at DH for them this year was drafted out of high school.

Out of all the pitchers on the roster at the Super, only 2 pitchers were drafted out of high school.

While Polk just ignored pitching, his bigger problem was his unwillingness to cut and use that money to go after someone else. That's where we really got behind.

you need two or three players drafted in the first ten rounds. All our really good teams had a few guys Polk had to sweat out waiting on the first day of class.

in 2008, he went 8-3 with a 1.57 ERA, 133k's and only 16 walks in 97.1 innings. in 2009, he went 13-1 (and we all know who gave him the loss) with a 1.32 ERA, 195 k's and only 19 walks in 109 innings.

those k numbers are ridiculous, and his k/bb ratio is simply amazing.

/i hadn't seen his numbers until they were mentioned yesterday.

many of his pitches outside of the strike zone that he gets a "swingin" strike on. Easy to do that on college guys. Will get much harder as he moves up to get disciplined guys that have seen a fastball before to chase those pitches ALL the time.

Still though, that is pretty sick. This is about the only concern anybody has with him...that he will have to "pitch" more at the next level and cant count on guys pulling a kruk just to get out of the box.
