Is that that abnormal for a bowl game? You can't really tailgate at the Sugar Bowl can you? Do people tailgate at the Peach Bowl? I don't remember tailgating at the Orange Bowl.

Yes you can at the Sugar Bowl and yes you can at the Peach Bowl.
Orange Bowl has plenty true tailgating lots- not sure about putting tents up but plenty of tailgating going on in all those pking areas around the stadiums.

Well, somebody's got to pay for that $5B stadium, so those with the power to select chose Sofi, perhaps with some personal kickbacks.

The guy mentioned that Los Angelinos wouldn't show up for a college football game if UCLA and USC were playing with both at 11-0. I guess he forgot that 100,000 show up for the Rose Bowl every year. It's technically Pasadena, but realistically LA.

I would guess the Rose Bowl draws a large crowd from all over the west coast not just LA area. It’s a bucket list item for a large number of fans.
