Nobody and I mean NOBODY has called for Cohen's firing after this season

So Coach, Cadaver, statemba, and anyone else using that to make your point can stop.

What some of us are saying is that next year should be a judgement year for Cohen and that if we continue to be near the bottom of the SEC and showing no signs of improvement it might be time to make a change. With our team coming back in 2013 it is absolutely time for Cohen to show what he is made of. He did it at KY, I absolutely think he will do it here and keep this job for many years to come. However, if our 2013 team mirrors what I have seen so far this year then I wouldn't hesitate getting some new blood in here.

"People still think we're a top 5 program in the country" Who think that? I never read anyone say that before.

Its something the Cohen defenders throw out there to imply that MSU fans today have unreasonable expectations, but it's just an excuse for Cohen. I believe that the disadvantage MSU faces (spending, historical success, etc) is smaller in baseball than the other two sports, but I don't think anyone still believes we're an elite program.

I'm like you. Next year is make or break, and if we miss postseason this year, I'll be pissed.

...don't you people ever get tired of waiting until next year?

Better yet, when next year always fails to arrive, why do you then say, "This next year was not our next year. NEXT YEAR is our true next year."

Speaking from many decades of empirical evidence, next year's MSU baseball team will be very similar to this year's baseball team.

Cohen bought himself 2 extra years when he made the super regional last year.

But after next year proves to not be next year, MSU will be looking for a new baseball coach the summer of 2013.

Hell, we weren't even that back in the glory years. A lot of us do think it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask our coach to go .500 or better in the SEC half the time and host an occasional regional.

I expect to be in the top half of the conference. Shouldn't he be held to some standard based on what he makes compared to other coaches in the SEC? Isn't that how the real world works?

"Despite what I think should happen, Cohen will definitely get 1 more year, but definitely doesn't deserve 2." That pretty much tells you that he may not even think he deserves 1 more year, but definitely not 2. So don't speak for everybody on that.

And I never said people think we should be a top 5 program, but many people think our history and facilities should get us recruits and wins, and that just simply isn't the case. I too think we can win, but some of you guys do not think realistically and think about what you're saying. You want .500 in the SEC? Well we've played 3 top 10 teams out of 5 series so far,so don't you think MAYBE you should let the season play out before saying the guy who led us to a Super last year "definitely shouldn't get 2 more years"? For all you know, we could sweep Tennessee and take 2 of 3 from Ole Miss and then all you 17ers are back on the damn bandwagon and not saying ****.

My main problem is that we are not even a full year removed from a Super and 2 outs from a CWS against the National runners up, and you people are already putting Cohen on the hot seat like we have massively underachieved this year. Yet none of you speak of the injuries and new starting lineup versus last years group that is gone. You say "I'm tired of the youth excuse", yet I guess you think Cohen should have walked in and in his second recruiting year brought in talent that is better than the 7 ranked SEC teams....and those studs should be incredible sophomores and juniors right now. Really?!

Think about the process of going from where we were to where you are thinking we should be, and who we are having to beat to get there. I remember how pathetic and careless the effort Polk 2.0's teams gave, and I see Cohen getting a lot out of his guys and they are playing hard. Cohen is recruiting good players despite what some idiots on here think, and when you keep combining good talent and hard effort the wins will come. I just think it's too early to be determining what he has to do next year. And I hope the mother17er leads us to a miracle run this year and makes it to the CWS to shut all of you the hell up. But I guess even if he does, you will say " the CWS is great and all, but he still hasn't proven to win regular season games". Right? See how 17ing dumb that sounds?

A. Nobody is putting him on the hot seat, just saying he will be on the hot seat if we do not show improvement. Improvement in year FIVE

B. Nobody is saying that our history and facilities should get us recruits and wins. We are saying that we have high expectations for baseball and if Cohen cannot live up to those expectations NEXT season, when any observer can see that we have the talent to be special, then coaching is to blame.

C. For all we know we may lose 2 of 3 to Tennessee and Ole Miss and miss both tournaments. Obviously all we have to go on is what we have seen so far. To discount what we have shown and speculate on what we could do at this point is absurd. Either way Cohen has been given his pass this season because once again the time to prove if he is worth keeping around will be 2013.

D. You know what sounds 17ing dumb? Taking what you have seen from this team and making a statement having anything to do with the CWS

Nice job of adding "despite what I think should happen" to what I actually said. I've never said that Cohen should be fired after this season.

Noone is arguing that if we don't make the post season this year that next yr. is crucial for Cohen. We are just asking that you let THIS season play out before you put Cohen on the hot seat for next year. No one knows what next weekend will bring. If we get hot from here on out, make some noise in the SEC tourney and make a regional then NO, next year Cohen has nothing to worry about. Let's put this argument to rest and get behind this baseball team and worry about next year during the off season.

We didnt wait until 45-0 to start talking about Crxxm. We didnt wait until Selection Sunday to talk about Stans, hell Coach has been talking about Stans for years.

Our fans should have the capability to support our team, but still discuss options/scenarios. We all said if Stans made the tourney he would stay, if not he was out. Same situation, except we are talking about next season and in some opinions, higher expectations

And look what happened with Stan's. Our fans started talking **** and gave up on the team halfway through the season and we tanked. It may or may not of had any correlation but I know for a fact that our players get on here regularly and see what ppl have to say. And seeing negative post after negative post and our fans constantly bashing them I'm guessing it had a little bit of an effect on them.

And most negativity is directed at Cohen, not the players. Even so these are college athletes on scholarship at an SEC institution, if they are affected by anything on an anonymous message board then they are in the wrong place. They deal with Cohen every day, they don't give a **** what is said here. Go back to Genes

and I've sort of stayed out of the fray for baseball because I thought this year might be rough in the sense that when you replace nearly your ENTIRE defense and nearly the ENTIRE lineup it doesn't take a major baseball analyst to know things could go poorly. We have some talent but our offense just doesn't generate enough runs on a consistent basis to consistently beat the better SEC competition. And our pitching is good but its certainly not as dominant as I thought it might be before the season. Stratton has been great and Graveman is better than expected but Routt and Reed have been major disappointments for what was expected coming into the season and Mitchell only so-so. I would say we have mid-pack SEC pitching and poor SEC hitting and defense. And the fact we have no power means we either need a BUNCH of hits to score or we have to take chances on the bases. But taking chances on the bases also means we give away outs at times. Would be shocked if we actually swept somebody including TN and OM at home. Our best chance to sweep was likely Vandy and there again we failed to get it done. This IS the transition year where we have gone from a bunch of JUCOs Cohen brought in to help us be competitive early on in his tenure to now playing with primarily Cohen's HS recruits. And I don't know exactly why but it did take a year or two for Cohen to get going with HS recruiting. Cohen got mostly pitchers out of HS when he first got here but unfortunately most of those all ended up being busts for various reasons (Bole, Watson, Bracewell, etc.). Guess I'm not as down on the program because I had set my sights set a little lower this year given the remake of the team. It probably got some expectations a little too high when we started out well this year pre-conference but I just think the inexperience coupled with some of our best players getting injured and still not playing at 100% is a LOT for this team to overcome. I agree that if we aren't STOUT next year its time to rethink the direction of the program but personally I wish people would take a chill pill on this season EVEN if we do miss out on tournament play. I will say that in my view that Cohen maybe should reevaluate some of his assistants at year's end but I don't get the feeling he will. For example, just seems that for every pitcher that gets better under Thompson there is another one or two that regress.
