Top players state-wide? Let's get this going. They have Mr. Basketball so why not Mr. Football right?

If you feel like you need to homer it up then fine but PLEASE back it up with stats etc.

Hmmmm... stats ehhh. I don't have Julian Love's as an offensive and defensive gem, but if this is stats driven, Ivory Kelly-Martin... 565 yards rushing, 8 rushing TD... on about 35 carries. Add a 70 yd KO TD and a FR TD.

Sean McCormack - Hinsdale South. Most underrated QB and player in the state right now.

40 of 60, 700 yards, 7 TD's

He's the real deal. Nobody knows about him, start taking notice. 6'5, cannon arm, smart, throws a great ball too.

Like epich said hard to make this stats driven . What if we think an O Lineman is the best. He doesn't have the stats yet but i bet by year end Julian Love will.

If you want to go by stats, you have to consider James Robinson from Rockford Lutheran. He has over 1000 rushing and close to 20 tds. He has set the state record for career TD's and should break the career rushing record. I know they are a small school, but his stats cannot be ignored.

Doesn't need to be just stat driven but the usual suspects will automatically nominate the usual kids on the fav team and it just gets old.....and I have no issue with almost everyone listed here so far.

I feel ya, but you have to realize and I'm sure you do, is that a lot of us don't cover football and really only see the teams that we root for and the teams they play against. I think most will be nominating players from their home team. I've only seen Loyola vs Maine South, Hinsdale South vs Glenbard West/Romeoville/Downers Grove South. Only 2 players stuck out to me as "Mr. Football" nominees.

If we are to avoid the homer noms, from the tape I have seen, the guy I would least like to play against is Riley Lees.

[but you know Sammy Brods would be my choice if I was going to homer it up]

I figured. I think both those Roadrunners should proffer Mr. Football type numbers/impact. Actually kinda scary...

@edgytim, I was thinking about this earlier. For POW, POY, COY and COW, suggestions should be from anywhere BUT your given school. It will make for better discussion and give you something other than a popularity contest. I think we have enough people on here who would be unbiased in their nominations to make it worth your time to read.

For this thread I would nominate James Robinson from Rockford Lutheran as well. The numbers he is putting up are just beyond crazy.

Tim Simon NDCP ... I don't have stats but he's kicking off , punting, kicking field goals, catching touchdown passes , intercepting passes, making tackles and just doing it all very well.

Would have like to have seen them matched up with Naz or JCA D.

Cristian Volpentesta from Highland Park High School. A selfless player who doesn't leave the field, and plays Fullback, strong safety, linebacker, long snapper kick off return and punt return. Or anywhere else his team needs him. Is a key blocker for one of the best running backs in the state.

It's a shame no one caught the Sam Brodner show last night. Something like ten touches and five TDs.

Amazing to watch that kid on turf. After the sloppy Duchon toupee of a field for three weeks, Brods ran like an uncaged beast. Sure it was only DGN but he looks ready for the big three game stretch ahead.

Right now, LT them HC then OPRF looks like the toughest three game stretch in IL. Hittersbaby

"Sure it was only DGN" Shots fired!!!! Shots fired!!!! Lol, i'm just messing around. Toughest 3 game stretch has been DGS this season with #1 Homewood Flossmoore #10 (?) Hinsdale Central and #15 Hinsdale South. That was to start the season too, poor guys.

But Brodner is my Mr. Football this season so far, he had the hype leading into the season and that will help him. He's like a Tom Rathman.

Sorry, I think I might have "hijacked" this thread and led the discussion in another direction. It's too hard not to sometimes (that's what she said?).

Riley lees stats:
42 carries 513 yards 12.21 avg 10TDs
19-39 passing 285 yards 3TDs

Just remember, Lees has not had to play a full game yet. Mostly done by half time. Maybe yards / tds per quarter played is a better measure

19 of 39 is not great, no matter what quarter. Can someone shed light on the sub 50% completion percentage?

Jordan Augustine of Althoff continues to shine. He's thrown for 1653 yards (96/130) and 18 TDs compared to four interceptions.

I think Michael Johnson from JCA now has to be included in this discussion. 300 yds in total offense and 5 td's in first half last night.

Johnson added another 220 yds in 3 quarters work in the 41-3 win over MCC. Now has over 1100 yds in 5 games. If this rate continues, he definitely has to be considered for Mr Football.
