else think the use of CDM, CRS, CJC or any other variation of the ridiculous coach abbreviations the Alabama schools are so fond of should be should be banned. Just a pet peeve of mine.

maybe while you're at it, you could petition to ban MSU, OM, USM, NCAA, NFL, QB, LB, OL...and any other acronym known to mankind. Find something more constructive to worry your mind with, my friend.

I thank you for your concern. Just doing my part to keep the board from becoming unreadable like every other post on the Bama and AU boards that abbreviates the name of every player, coach and administrator on their campuses.

ill make it easy for you.

acronym- an abbreviation that forms a word.

abbreviation- letters from many words that shorten the term.

there you go, thats from the Book of Golfer.

NATO, acronym.
NCAA, abbreviation.

see the difference?

grammar smack talk, good times.

you can't reason with stupidity. Obviously, I know the difference between an abbreviation and an acronym. If you had bothered to read my entire post, you would have seen that I put several acronyms in there. That's why I said to go ahead and just ban all acronyms known to man. If you never learned (in grade school, high school, college, life) what an acronym is, that's not my problem. If you're too lazy to click a link and learn what one is...is a bigger problem, and just shows that you were trolling to call someone out and make an attempt to be funny, as was Sesh. btw...I have no problem with being wrong and would fully expect to be called out on it if I were. In this case, I wasn't.

An abbreviation can be neither an acronym nor an initialism, e.g., Abbr. for abbreviation
An acronym can be an initialism, e.g., NATO since it is taken from the first letter of four words and is pronounceable
An acronym can be a non-initialism. This happens if a letter is taken from the middle of a word.
An initialism can be a non-acronym, e.g. FBI since it's not pronounced as a word.

Clear?
