Mississippi State recently (and finally) got its non-SEC schedule set in stone, so let's take a brief look at each of the opponents.

I've done a little homework on each and give you the basics here (hat tip to Blue Ribbon and Athlon for the bulk of info). You'll see only 12 opponents here; MSU will play 14 non-conference games, but two of those will be against teams yet to be determined at the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii (Dec. 22-25). MSU opens that tourney against Washington State; I'll take a closer look at all the participating teams when the tourney draws nearer.

The RPIs are from the end of last season.

being the one we play versus Washington State.

We will also play either Baylor (Sweet 16 team last year ) or San Diego . Then there will be a third game vs either Florida St(right outside Top 25)/Utah/Butler (top25)/Hawaii depending how we play in the first 2 games.

This should boost the number below, especially if we play something like Washington St/ Baylor/ Florida St

1. Brianthedog will tell you that a few losses are to be expected with Sidney and Bost out, so those losses can't go against Stansbury.
2. Hanmu will tell you that at least one of those obscure teams is going to be anNCAA team, possibly Sweet 16.
3. Costanza will not read the thread because if he did he would not be able to resist replying.
4. Coach, fishwater and I will read and nod in agreement.
5. HD6 would ban you if he hadn't already banned himself.

in order to accommodate the f'd up delays created by our mensa point guard and sideshow renardo. But what he can be blamed for is that he loosely oversees a f'n AAU program built on wannabes with delusions of grandeur maintained in a constant state of disarray and turmoil.

I have no defense for #2. However I would like to add afew more:

6. At some point in a game we will be behind and half the board will be freaking smooth out.

7. C34 will attach himself to whatever flavor of the week SEC coach that is supposedly better than Stansbury.

8. We will have tons of input from posters that have actually never seen our team play but have looked at a boxscore.

9. We will drop one of these early games while playing without Bost and Sidney. The team we will roll out to start the seasonis mostly comprised of new players and guys coming off of injuries and we will look like crap until about mid January. Yet we will still have posters that expect us to look like Duke.

10. We will have posters that think MSU lives in a bubble and that no team in America loses to a bad team on a given night. (ie see UT last night).

so there will be a lot of people on here going apeshit crazy. Becausebasketball is the only sport at MSUwhere anything less than perfection means the coach sucks and should be fired.

they are not that much better than ours.

They will easily have a better RPI than us though, simply because the East has better teams. If we want to make any noise we are going to have to sweep at least 3 west teams.

11. Stans will make sure to rack up a couple of losses early, but doing so with Tranny @ 1 and Benock @ 2 getting lots of minutes.

Bryant @ 1, Smith @ 2 and perhaps Steele should be be getting those minutes instead.Coach Stans will say something like, "Well, Shaun is a 3 because he doesn't dribble well enough to be a 2." Never mind that Benock isa turnover waiting to happen, and CAN'T SHOOT WORTH A 17.....do those defficiencies occur to you?

Losing a few games early is almost to be expected I guess, but doing so with the wrong players out there freakin kills me.

I don't really fault Stansbury for initially giving Beckham and Benock the start since they have been at MSU longer but that experiment needs to end quick at the first sign of trouble. If we stick with that as our starting backcourt and play them significant minutes then we will most certainly drop a few OOC games.
I have no problem with Stansbury not just handing over the reigns to the new guys right off the bat. They should have to work forthat starting spota little bit but not at the expense of losing games.

If you question anything the basketball coach does, Brianthedog will unfriend you on Facebook.

How many losses in the OOC are OK? Seven? Four? Two? What's the magic number when people are allowed to be upset? I'd just like to know ahead of time which games we are allowed to complain about if we lose and which ones we are not.

I love all the extremist posts that say "we have to look like Duke or people freak out" or "we have to go undefeated or people freak out." I understand we're going to lose some games. I just hate losing when I feel like we were unprepared or didn't take advantage of opportunities. I was more upset about the Richmond game than the Rider game last year because Dee had EASY chances to win that game at the FT line and didn't get it done. Rider shot lights out and we did very little to stop it. Same story with Auburn on the road when we let Waller shoot wide open threes most of the night. I'd like to think we could play better D, but you have to give Rider and Auburn credit for making shots. With Richmond, we let them control tempo and played their kind of game and STILL had a chance to win at the FT line. We're so Jekyll and Hyde it's hard for us to know what to expect day to day, much less year to year.
