North Korea warned the United States on Tuesday of "merciless" attacks if an aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Carl Vinson, which is joining South Korean forces for exercises, infringes on its sovereignty or dignity.

North Korea, which has alarmed its neighbors with two nuclear tests and a string of missile launches since last year, said the arrival of the U.S. strike group was part of a "reckless scheme" to attack it.

"If they infringe on the DPRK's sovereignty and dignity even a bit, its army will launch merciless ultra-precision strikes from ground, air, sea and underwater," the North's state KCNA news agency said.

North Korea's official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

"On March 11 alone, many enemy carrier-based aircraft flew along a course near territorial air and waters of the DPRK to stage drills of dropping bombs and making surprise attacks on the ground targets of its army," KCNA said.

A U.S. Navy spokesman said the Carl Vinson was on a regular, scheduled deployment to the region during which it would take part in exercises with the forces of ally South Korea.

Last week, North Korea fired four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan in response to annual U.S.-South Korea military drills, which the North sees as preparation for war.

The murder in Malaysia last month of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's estranged half-brother has added to a sense of urgency to efforts to handle North Korea.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is due to make his first visit to South Korea on Friday.

Last week, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said President Donald Trump's administration was re-evaluating its North Korea strategy and "all options are on the table".

Exacerbating regional tension, China is vehemently opposed to the deployment in South Korea of an advanced U.S. anti-missile system.

The United States and South Korea say the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system is for defense against North Korea, but China fears its powerful radar can probe deep into its territory and compromise its security.

The United States began to deploy the system a week ago, a day after North Korea launched its latest four missile tests.

South Korean and U.S. troops began the large-scale joint drills, which are billed as defensive in nature, on March 1.

The exercise last year involved about 17,000 American troops and more than 300,000 South Koreans. South Korea has said this year's exercise would be of a similar scale.

China has also repeatedly expressed concern about the U.S.-South Korean exercises, saying they do nothing to ease tension.

The United States has also started to deploy "Gray Eagle" attack drones to South Korea, a U.S. military spokesman said on Monday.

The USS Carl Vinson led a carrier strike group in early March to the South China Sea, amid some confusion about U.S. staying power in the region under a Trump administration that has policies skewed heavily toward a domestic agenda.

WVU82, the media isn't reporting this but the North Korean soldiers know that aboard the USS Carl Vinson is a carefully selected blend of well fed Dogs in certain favorite varieties familiar to the diets of the N. Korean troops. The U.S. Navy will have them running around on the deck of the Carl Vinson while conducting exercises to engage in deep psy ops designed to entice the N. Korean forces into surrendering for food in exchange for being annihilated.

If you don't mind me asking, where have you served? I noticed that you were stationed at Edwards (my nephew was stationed their also). Now, you were also apparently in Korea.

I've done and been to a lot of cool places as active duty and also in my defense role.

Active duty I was stationed at:
Paris Island
Fort Huachuca
TwentyNine Palms

Deployed to:
Korea a couple of time, Yuma x 5 for WTI (Marine Corps version of Top Gun or Red Flag), Miramar, Pendleton, Kuwait, Cherry Point and JTF-6/DEA/ICE stuff, Lejeune, Laredo TX for some JTF-6/DEA/ICE stuff, Idaho for the same. I was decorated twice for actions supporting JTF 6 missions. I also was part of the invasion of Iraq. On the invasion, some of my intel was what kicked the invasion forward 12 hrs. Also supported the Jessica Lynch recovery. I got out of the Marine Corps after "Mission Accomplished".

Basically went straight into the defense world. I've been all over the globe for UAV related things, this is where the Edwards aspect came into play. Took a new role as a PM about 6 years ago and now I focus on the Middle East as a department head.

I like to travel. My wife and I try to take one big vacation without the kids every year. We're going to South Africa this year. We've gone to 6 continents and are planning a trip to Antarctica in the coming years.

No way, go do an easy one. You can catch a quick "cheap" flight from BWI to Keflavik direct. Take the wife on a long weekend.
I am more of a cabin at canaan valley type when it comes to adventure. I was referring more to reading a lot of good stories about your career.

Regardless od spelling, it is still foul smelling rotten cabbage.
There's more than two dozen kinds of kimchi, only two of which involve cabbage. I don't like that one either. As for dog, I ate it once on my first tour over there - at least I was told that's what it was after I'd eaten it. It's going out of fashion these days, as people in the South no longer need to eat dogs to survive, although there are those who consider it a delicacy.

See above. Bean sprouts, cucumber, radish, turnip ... All good.
