Lots of byes this week, so I'm combining predictions again

Watauga @ Asheville

Nobody has kept it close vs Watauga this year, and it will be a tall task for Asheville to keep it respectable. The Cougars are at home and coming off a bye week, so maybe they will have some surprises.

Watauga 41
Asheville 14

McDowell @ North Buncombe

The Titans are having a pretty good start to the season, but have played an easy schedule. They have yet to play a complete game, and there's lots of room for improvement on both sides. They have another winnable game at North Buncombe. North has been playing pretty well this season, too, so it could be close if North can get its running game going.

McDowell 27
North Buncombe 21

Alexander Central-BYE
Enka-BYE
Erwin-BYE
Freedom-BYE
Reynolds-BYE
Roberson-BYE
South Caldwell-BYE
St Stephens-BYE

Was really impressed with how Asheville played @ DB. Not quite sure Watauga doesn't struggle with their defense. This is a good measuring stick for next week against Freedom.

Asheville beat East rutherford and they aint no joke. Crest killed Asheville though so it should be a telling game.

Well unfortunately Asheville just got younger. Sophomore RB1 is out for the year with a broken foot and a freshman moves to start in his place. I hate it for the kid but with surgery he should recover and have two more years.

That’s a shame. There was injury to Mount Airy’s RB1 before Watauga game

McDowell had over 500 yards of offense including over 350 passing yards tonight and held North Buncombe to only 190 yards. McDowell still hasn't played a complete game but are improving. The next 3 games will be pivotal to who finishes 3rd in the conference. McDowell plays South Caldwell, Alexander Central and St Stephens all at home. McDowell has only played 2 home games so far.

McDowell is in an interesting position. Best case, they are probably looking at 7-3, which could mean a home playoff game. And a possible playoff win would be huge for their first year coach in building that program.
Worst case; they could be 5-5, which is still not so bad considering that they were expected to struggle. But after a fairly hot start they’d have to be a little disappointed with that finish. I’ll repeat what I’ve said before, that the new coach is doing a good job building up that team, but the next month will tell the tale.

I hope for 6-4 but 7-3 will be tough

My best guess is that the Titans are favored against SC and Saint and AC is a toss-up. But a clean sweep against all three is definitely a possibility, especially playing at home. I'm thinking that the community has to be pretty excited about the team's play so far this season.

I feel like Saint is gonna trip someone up. Can't say who, but from my past experience, they always have one good game in them.
That's definitely a possibility, but looking at their record on MaxPreps there's nothing really that jumps out as particularly impressive.

Saint is dangerous on offense! DE is great but whole team is undisciplined. They can surprise if they put it together.

I said the same thing in 09-10. Watauga played @ Saint last week of the season, we win we get a home game in the playoffs. Saint is 4-6 on a 4 game losing streak, beat us 16-13. Watauga draws Ragsdale first round, they beat us like we slapped their momma. Saint is sneaky late in the season, im just saying.

Fun fact, Reynolds won state that year.

Looking at MaxPreps they'd lost four in a row, just as you said, but the last three had been by a touchdown or less and against both Hickory and Alexander, which looks like a team that was a legit threat.
But then, looking at that same Watauga team they really hadn't had a bad loss except for a thrashing against Hibriten and they'd been really close to ACR earlier in the year.

For McDowell to win the next three, they need to capitalize in the red zone. They have many empty trips the past few weeks despite winning. They only beat NB by 16 despite having 400 more total yards.

They also need to limit big plays on special teams.
