It’s the same thing for Fickell at Wisconsin. They wanted to fire him but don’t want to get in on the coaching circus.
Seems like next season won’t be as quiet as it may have seemed with so many coaches potentially in year 1. 2025 looked like it would be crazy, but a lot of schools and coaches are sitting it out. Kentucky appears to be keeping Stoops, so you could start ‘26 with 4 P4 coaches on the hot seat (Lebby, Stoops, Fickle and Norvell).
Great example of why you don’t pay someone obnoxious amounts of money just to try to prove you are “serious”.
I think the Stoops camp may be flying under the radar looking for other opportunities.
He will get fired mid season in 2026 with a much lower buyout & a more favorable coaching carousel.
It's all fine and good to give him the dreaded "vote of confidence" now, but if he loses to a 3-win Florida team next weekend and misses a bowl game, I suspect the admin will do a 180 on this.
