but I believe I'd rather have Pomeranz pitching in game 3 than game 2. A couple of things, Pomeranz pitched very effective and kept his team in the game, but losing today gives a little mo to Va and the pressure has to be really huge on Bianco and his team. Another days rest couldn't have hurt Pomeranz as well (I know he pitched well). Also, I know Bukovich (sp?) hasn't pitched great the last outing or so but I am wondering if they have lost all confidence in him (as well as himself)?

I will say this- Pomeranz probably will be available to pitch out of the bullpen. I would not be shocked at all if that happens.

however, my only thinking was that if we won Friday and Drew was anything less than 100% in the way he felt, you hold him to Sunday if needed. He's our best pitcher right now, but at the same time, if you have to use him, you want to make sure that he's on top of his game. He gave us 7 innings of 2 run ball today, but I can tell you that he wasn't on top of his game. He was erratic a lot of the game and fell behind a lot early in the game. I don't know if that was fatigue or not, but if it was, then it definitely would've made sense to give him another day. And hell, if you find a way to win without him, you get the added bonus of a week of rest for him.

In normal circumstances, with normal rest, I definitely agree that you go for the throat in Game 2 if you've won Game 1, but with Pomeranz and what he did last weekend, I would've definitely considered holding him if he wasn't feeling 100%. That said, he may have been feeling 100%, and if so, then yes you definitely throw him as we did today.

I'm sure Pomeranz told Bianco he felt fine and was ready to go which he was a workhorse and like you said threw many pitches. Having one more day to rest MAY have made a big difference in him throwing fewer pitches and getting a complete game. Again, I didn't disagree with Pomeranz starting, but like I said I bet Bianco and the Rebels wish Pomeranz was pitching today, now!

he is a descendant of Superman. He has thrown 374 pitches, 24 innings, allowing just 14 hits and striking out 36 in the past 8 days and that doesn't count all the dadgum warm up pitches to get ready. Wow. I just do not see him throwing a single pitch today. His arm has to be absolutely dead by now.

Another preseason top 10 team, Mississippi, was forced to a decisive Game Three after Virginia rallied in the late innings for a 4-3 win. The Rebels started ace lefthander Drew Pomeranz on four days' rest following his 16-strikeout, complete-game masterpiece on two days' rest Monday, and Pomeranz showed no statistical signs of fatigue, striking out 10 and allowing just two runs over seven innings. Despite his huge workload in regionals, Pomeranz threw 146 pitches over seven innings Saturday, and it's hard to believe the Rebels subjected Pomeranz's first-round arm to that kind of load.

"Drew was superman out there, and what a warrior," Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said afterward. "At this point, we know that ultimately it's all about winning, so we're going to take care of business tomorrow."</p>

Whether or not you agree with Bianco's usage of his ace, give Pomeranz his due: He came up huge for the third straight start, leaving with a 3-2 lead. With Pomeranz out, the Cavaliers scored two runs in the eighth against reliever David Goforth to steal the win. Virginia's scheduled Sunday starter, righthander Andrew Carraway, picked up the win in relief with 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball. UVa. coach Brian O'Connor did not name a Game Three starter afterward.
