and I DO think the guy is an excellent QB. However, yesterday, the Giants won despite Eli playing a very average game at best. Ten of the twenty points scored by the Giants were directly off of horrible miscues from the SF return man. Also, Eli was VERY fortunate because he fumbled the ball once in the pocket and the Giants got it back as well as at least twice in the game he threw the ball where it definitely should have been intercepted but on both occassions TWO SF defenders collided catching the ball and it fell incomplete. Very fortunate there weren't at least two or three Giants turnovers on all those plays. Seems to me if Alex Smith had been the beneficiary of gift wrapped fumbles from the Giants return man that wouldn't have made his play yesterday stellar by any means even though he hit a couple of big passes just like Eli. Just think all the Eli love today is a little undeserved based on what I saw. And I say that with the understanding that the playing conditions were rough yesterday.

Not taking away from the great season Eli had, but he had numerous chances to win it yesterday and could not do it until the Niners gift wrapped him some good field position.

Granted, the 49ers stuffed their run game and basically forced them into a passing only team, then they pinned their ears back and spent most of the 2nd half pounding him into the ground. Eli didn't win that game. The 49ers lost that game on special teams. With the lack of running game and the pass rush he was facing though, along with the conditions, he did a solid job. He wasn't the story last night, though the media makes him the story because he's the face. He had a good first half, converted some big 3rd downs and led the FG drive right before the half. The only thing he did in the 2nd half, and it was big, was manage to convert the go ahead TD to Manningham on 3rd and long. The rest of the 2nd half, he didn't have many open receivers, and he was getting pounded. He couldn't get anything going.

I loved that game last night. I know we've got all the Rodgers/Brees/Brady try to outscore our crappy defense games, and most fans like that, but I like a good slobber knocker. Those two teams are feeling it this morning I'm sure. I hated to see the 49ers defense have to suffer a loss though after the way they played. They didn't deserve for a kick returner to beat them.

passing his brother and Johnny U - he's got game. The weather was extraordinarily bad yesterday, nobody is going to look good in that. IMHO, he's a top 3 QB in the NFL. Rodgers, Brees, Eli.

And yes they caught a couple breaks, but you could say that about the winner in just about every close game. Those conditions+ that defense + what was at stake = historic performance IMO

Uh no. He had a good game under some tough conditions. I consider historic to be Montana to Clark to beat Dallas or Brady throwing 6 TDs. If Eli had driven them down the field to win it then I might agree with you.

He had 316 yards, 2 touchdowns, and more importantly 0 int against the number 1 turnover margin team in the league. The conditions were rough, he was on the road, the running game was nonexistent for most of the game, and the stakes were high. I'd say he had a pretty solid performance considering those facts. He kept his team in the game and didn't put his defense in terrible situations. Not historic by any means, but very good.
