Maybe my first and last. I am vaguely familiar with the rules of soccer and outside of Landon Donovan and David Beckham, I really have no knowledge of the players. Is Pele still around? Anyway, I just read the article on Michael Bradley in ESPN mag and that dude may be the most intense athlete I've ever read about. Somebody break him down for me, if you will, in terms of comparing him to someone in another sport. And comparing he and his Dad's relationship as "Marinovich like" would be a disservice in my opinion. The article did not do that but I understand is Dad is a driven coach and quite popular but from what I gather, he has to make his son come in from practice from time to time. Earl Woods/Tiger type deal?

My first thoughts on MB were your typical coaches kid impression. He was not talented enough to play on the international level and was only in the line-up because of daddy being the coach. However, he has really matured and is gritty and tough as nails. I like having him on the pitch because he does the dirty work and will scrap together a goal here and there. He's a Dietrich Slater, Phil Turner, or Brandon Vincent type of guy. He's willing to get his hands dirty for the success of the team.

At one point he was tearing up the Dutch league (I know, I know, it's not the Premier League or Serie A). He had something 15 or 16 goals in 30 games for Heerenveen one season. And he actually got his first call up before Bob Bradley became the coach.

And from what I know of Bradley, Sr., he's not the kind of guy to bring in his own son if his son wasn't good enough.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I actually agree with you. My first impression of Micheal Bradley was wrong. I think he's a heck of a player.
