Actually every coach can use that line when losing. They coach. They don't play. If the players were executing, they would be winning.

Exactly. I mean Joe Blow can script a winning offense/defense.... ....it's the coaches job to get the players to execute.

Coach To QB: "Throw a deep pass for a TD"

QB: "k coach"

Coach to QB: "What happened ? That play worked every time on paper"

I expect us to beat Byu. I think it will be similar to today's game. We will pound them with the running game and use shorts as the safety valve. WVU 27 BYU 17.

Any word on whether Dick at any point stood there and yelled, "Are you not entertained?"

Seeing Zona lose I will admit that I was entertained. Best view of him is 2k miles away losing.

I know, I know it's nots Dicks fault. He doesn't have Casteel running his defense. That was why he failed at Michigan. The difference here is he actually ran Casteel off after last season. I guess he didn't read the book he wrote on why he failed at Michigan.

But DickRod losing and using the "execution" excuse is entertaining.

Yeah yeah yeah......I mean losing to BYU is as bad as losing to Iowa State at home after having a big lead........Get a life. Rich Rod is a quality coach, and it's time to let it go. People make mistakes every day. Even you in your perfect life, I'm sure.

Exactly. It's been almost 10 years. Time to let it go. We all make mistakes, including Rodriguez, Garrison and Pastilong.

After you change your tampon, perhaps you will come back with something better. Did it really hurt your fragile little feelings that I poked fun at his usual excuses?

Quality coaches don't blame the players for every mistake and take credit for every success.

Not sure why where even talking about this. I don't remember anyone talking about Frank Cignetti 9 years after he was gone and his record really did suck. Not that we had message boards back at that time.

Frank cignetti didn't throw the University under the bus. Cignetti is a quality individual. RR is 0-2 in those qualities

I don't think Cignetti ever said, "this place ain't so F$&@ING SPECIAL!" either. He also didn't do a hit piece on ESPN OTL either and/or engineer claims of racism and claims of violence against his kids (BS).

I will just say there are some people I enjoy watching fail: whoever is coaching Miami, Bobby Petrino, Rick Pitino, the old ******* men's basketball coach @ UConn, the old ******* men's basketball coach at CUSE (& I don't care bout or watch basketball), any career politician, and diva athletes & entertainers. But above them all is one Dick Rodriguez. I just darn near hate that *******. ALWAYS Wishing him & Magda the worst. He looks great 2k miles away losing.

who cares that was 9 years ago. This is a wvu message board we just won our 1st game of the season and you should be happy with that. You shouldn't be worried about what's happening in Arizona last i checked there not on the schedule. If you wanna live in the past then that;s you're business but it doesn't make you look good. Arizona losing isn't gonna change the fact that RR successors haven't achieved the success he had at wvu.

Ok if DickRod isn't relevant, BYU is a team we face this year. They just beat a P5 school and if we beat them that adds to the resume. Do you feel better?

Is there a correlation between those who are tired of DickRod being brought up on here and those who would welcome him back with open arms? I'm beginning to think so. He shat on our school and state in the most unforgiving manner when he could have simply taken a better job and left it at that. He was coerced by ego and greed, so to me he is in the same breath as Pitt and VT in that I will ALWAYS enjoy watching them fail. This school will always be bigger than whoever is playing or coaching here, and I don't really care for anyone who thinks they are bigger than our school.

In reality, if Zona was playing someone else that wasn't on our schedule, I wouldn't have cared in the slightest. But because it was BYU, I did, and the fact this post gets people riled up because it's not a "BRING RICH HOME" thread really makes me disappointed in the fair weatherness of this fanbase.

I think you missed y point. Somebody was comparing RR to cignetti. I just pointed out several differences between the two men. I was at WVU when Bowden nd then Cignetti was the coach. I was living my life when RR left to take the Michigan job and trashed his alma mater on the way out. I dont' care that he left, I care how he left. By the way, he had one really successful year, the 2005 year. The others were OK. Even the 2007 team choked under him.

You clearly fail to grasp the seriousness of his transgressions. There are many people that will never let it go and I don't blame them. Just like has been pointed out in this thread, he accused the University of racism, fought his buyout, delayed payments and **** on the University and the state, and called Michigan recruits while he was still employed here.

BYU beating Arizona was a solid win for them, in spite of how we feel about RR. Their next two opponents are Utah and UCLA, both solid programs. We will know a little more about them by the time they play us.

Give me a freaking break. You revisionist historians just make yourselves look like fools with posts like those. "One really successful year"? So now consecutive 11-2 seasons are just "OK" at a school that had exactly two 11-win seasons in its entire history before he got here? Yeah, right.

BYU will serve as the proxy for hate Rich/Rich was good at WVU debate because BYU and Arizona obviously are even-steven teams.

So, if WVU beats BYU, then, by proxy in some minds, WVU and Dana beat Arizona and Rich. If BYU wins, then Rich and Arizona beat WVU and Dana.

I know it's convoluted and ridiculous but that doesn't stop asinine comparisons on this board.

If BYU is unbeaten when it plays WVU, which is very unlikely with UCLA, in particular, in the mix, and even with Utah, and the Mountaineers are 2-0, which is likely, ESPN will perk up its ears.

But BYU could be 1-2 by then, so the Missouri victory would mean more to the pollsters than a victory over BYU.

College football sure is interesting. And it's only Week One!

I can't wait for the Youngstown game in Mountaineer Field for the drama to continue.

It's true. 2007 losses to USF (underdog) and Pitt (underdog) and he didn't coach the Fiesta Bowl so yeah his best season was the Sugar Bowl season. People really want to give Rodriguez credit for things he doesn't deserve. Remember getting embarrassed by Maryland for years, Florida State blowing us out, lmao Virginia blowing us out. Get over it

In that conference where we were the only ones who gave a crap about football, yes. The two under Nehlen had tougher schedules.

The 2005 team lost to VaTech and then rallied. His 2007 team was good but still choked twice. You can see how much easier the Big East was than playing in a real conference is.

Ah, revisionist history. In 1988 WVU beat only TWO teams that had winning records that season, and one was by, one victory over the .500 line. "Tougher schedules"? Think again, my friend.

Rich was the best WVU coach in the 21st century, bar none. Dana is battling Bill Stewart for 2nd place because Don Nehlen was at the end of a fine 21-year career when the century began.

Agreed. everyone makes mistakes (some more egregious than others). Some have blunders rather than mistakes. These are generally pre conceived and planned for effect. That is what I see as regards the actions of RR when he vacated Morgantown and burned the bridges. People who make mistakes and want to re-engaged with those against whom the mistake was perpetrated repent of what they did and said and ask for forgiveness. Duh, do not recall hearing words that would represent either of these sentiments coming from RR. Hard to forgive one and forget the actions occurred when one sees nothing to infer he has ever had a change of heart. Thus, I do not regard his actions as mistakes but the responses of an immature child executing a revengeful temper tantrum. Harm done and, seemingly, NO REMORSE. Keep him far, far away from that for which we care so much .
