but I just got an email from the Athletic Dept where they are auctioning off Jack's chair from the broadcast booth. That would be a nice collectible piece to have but damn! A legend sat in that chair and hasn't been gone a WEEK and they're auctioning off his stuff? It seems like the trophy case in the Hump would be a good place for that chair with his other memorabilia. Of course, I'm sure someone will pony up more than the $1000 starting bid for it.

then Jack obviously "endorses" it. The email I got didn't say who benefits from it, athletic dept I guess?

It would fit in a display case very easily. I'm sure the future stadium expansion/renovations will include some sort of hall of fame area or just some general display stuff. Jack's broadcast chair would be a good addition to something like that if this thing would only go for a few grand...

anybody with enough cash laying around to buy that chair is probably going to give it back to the university as a memorabilia item donated by the guy with enough cash laying around to buy the chair

But an orange chair with Jack's signature on it? I guess I could stick it in my Lime Green party room where we still host key parties.....I think it matches the beanbag chair.

"Now auctioning the chair Jack Cristil once walked by that was holding open a stairwell door in Dorman Hall while he headed out for a piss and a smoke break. Believed to have been 1976. This chair* is a true symbol of MSU tradition.

* Cristil's actual broadcast chair will not be auctioned, idiots."

Do you have to hold personal property for a year and a day before donating the item to a 501(c)(3) in order to qualify for a charitable deduction donation?
