See Low's blog post above: "SEC pledges $500,000 to Alabama"

If it were anyone other than Alabama, I'd have no problems with it. However, I guess the cynic in me makes me wonder if they would have done the same for us.

Obviously, the situation with the tornado is unprecedented, but is there any history of the SEC donating funds to a member institution like this?

Hell no. They would have given us 50,000. This is the kind of crap that just drives me crazy. How about giving it to the town or some of the lower income areas surrounding UofA. Alabama has tons of dollars to spend. Let them dip into their huge reserves.

Maybe we should hit them up for the money they owe us (plus interest) from the Old Main fire.

I heard on Finebaum that the money would be used to help students that suffered a loss from the storm. I didn't have renters insurance when I was in college, but I didn't have much worth insuring. I bought all my fine furnishings from the crazy lady at the nearly new shop. If the money is going to help the students out I think it's a good thing.

They thought that the school would be better to distribute than themselves. If you give the money to the red cross or somebody like that part of the money overhead. This way all of the money will go to those who need it.

I don't usually have anything good to say about Finebaum, but since the storms his show could be called Tornado Talk. He has had a lot of good guests and is getting information out to the people. He has had many AL officials on the show informing the people many who don't have electricity, tv or internet. I was impressed when a caller from California was trying to find out info about his grandmother that was in a nursing home near 15th street. Within 15 minutes the Head of the AL Nursing home administration called in and let the guy know all was well and his grandmother was moved to another facility due to the power outage.

The SEC office would suggest that the cowbells were to blame, and that we brought this upon ourselves! Slive, Conference USA commissioner for life!
