If the fan in you is feeling beat up by this season, we still haven’t played what are anrguably our two toughest games of the season.

Inspirational thought for the day.

I'm sloughing it all off. I will miss football when the season's over, though, just not OUR football.

Does anyone know if we expect to lose a lot of starters to the Portal and to the NFL? I suspect Sellers and Stewart to the NFL. Any others?

Personally, I don't see Sellers getting drafted very high, if at all after this season. What has he really shown? (Not asking you specifically - just a questioning thought out loud.)

As for the rest of the season, against my better judgement (and ignoring 50yrs of my own Gamecock fandom), I'm feeling that we will now beat Coastal and clempsin. If we can manage to not get 1/2 of our roster injured in the OM and A&M games...... I buying that the OL and O in general has found a little something. Not enough to win the next two, but just enough to win the last two.

1) Sellers has absolutely no business even thinking about the NFL.....and whomever is feeding him that nonsense should be arrested and charged with child abuse. If he does get drafted, it won't take an NFL team very long to relegate him to the practice squad .....and we'll never hear from him again. He's not ready. No where near ready for the NFL.

2) Stewart is ready. He can go. Blessings.

3) (not being ugly to you or your question) - There will always be portal kids, quitters, etc....and it's always going to hurt.

4) Ole Miss is going to absolutely kill us. Lane Kiffin hates South Carolina for some reason. If he can put up 70 on us, he will.

Thanks,. I did not interpret that as ugly to me at all. I agree with you that Ole Miss will kill us. I expect Texas A&M to not take any prisoners from us when we play them. THAT game will be awful. And if we lose to Clemson, which is possible, players may see this program as a sinking ship and transfer out. I hope they choose to stick it out.

I think it’s going to be difficult to hold on to Sellers and Stewart. It will be difficult to fend off programs calling that offer more money and the chance to win.Hope I’m being overly negative but college sports just aren’t the same as they were even 2 yrs ago.

I wouldn't blame anyone for portalling out. Beamer sticking with these no count offensive coaches isn't doing his players any favors. Heck, if I wasn't an alumni I'd find another team to root for.

It might, but i dont think it happens.

I think we play Clemson looking for a 5th win. With a bowl out of the question, i wonder at our motivation.

I wonder about our motivation even for the Coastal game.

Since the UK game, we have stumbled to 3 straight losses. In that streak, we lost 2 games we probably should have won in games where we really didn't think we had any shot and we got blown out in the other game which we thought was our best chance at a win.

We now go into 2 toughest games of the season. If we come out of those 2 games having our butts whipped, I don't know how motivated the team (or fans) will be for a blah matchup against Coastal. We'll have lost 7 out of 8.

It feels like the perfect setup for a total morale crushing loss. I could also see us stumbling to an ugly 17-10 kind of win that really doesn't do any more for morale than a loss would do.

I cant argue with any of this. I'm simply thinking that we out talent coastal in the end to pull away. Nothing deeper than that.

I could fully see coastal playing "like its their superbowl" if we do go through two more beatdowns. And I would be surprised if either of the next two games are close.

I see a win against Coastal, they are not Chadwell's Coastal. Clemson game will determine if we don't go to a bowl with 4 or 5 wins. Clemson could limp into the game with 5 losses and either shuffle through the motions to end a disappointing season or come in fired up trying to save their season.

4-8 or 5-7, neither of which is bad enough to get Beamer fired. When Spring practice starts, the playoff talk will start up again. By mid August, the "special season" talk will be in full bore.

Hard to imagine. For whatever reason, Kiffin absolutely hates USC. I guess it goes back to losing out on Alshon when he was at UT. He takes special glee in beating us, so I see him running it up on us if they can. We've never won in College Station, and I don't look for that to change this season.

Would we really get a bowl invite with 5 wins? I've seen it, but its pretty rare.

Im one of those who says the extra practices cant hurt. For most of the team, its a minimal impact. But if Noland is going to be our qb next year, those 2-3 weeks could be a big head start on next season.

Dylan Stewart is a true sophomore and not NFL eligible. He could transfer to chase the bag or a championship, though.

Those bowl practices aren't nearly as important as they used to be now that coaches can work with players year round. The biggest plus of bowl practice is the chance for early enrollees to get to practice with the team. I'm not sure that makes a huge difference in a program that has recruiting classes ranked around #20.

I think the likelihood of a bowl invite with 5 wins would depend a lot on how many other SEC teams were in bowls.

After watching their game last night, I can see a very real possibility they beat us, & therefore, Bye Bye Beamer.

If they beat us it's because we will come home reeling from two consecutive obliterations by Ole Miss and A&M and the team will have quit

If these next 2 games go very bad, I could see the the team limping home with a "let's just get this thing over with" attitude.

Maybe. Losing both eliminates a bowl too. And no matter how bowls are now "meaningless", not even qualifying for one is a blow.

I have to wonder what happens if we lose these next two, win ugly against Coastal and then get blown out of the stadium by Clemson? I'm talking 63-17 type loss.

Does Beamer survive a 4-8 season with an embarrassing loss to Clemson?

Conventional wisdom is "yes". Why? Beats me.

A loss to Coastal would, in my opinion, put all options on the table.

3-9 would mean a complete loss of the team by Beamer & Co. I don't see that happening. I think play one of the next two games closer than everyone thinks, but still lose. I would wager that would be the A&M game only because it's coming off of a bye and the defense could keep it "close" as in 27-9 with them putting 10 or 14 up in the 4th after the defense finally exhausts from no rest as we 3 & out our way through the second half. Ole Miss will probably be one of those 41-13 types. I think we pull away from Coastal in the 4th quarter and the climpson game is about as much of a toss-up between the two since the Holtz v Bowden days.

Either way, we will find out what kind of AD we have. 4-8 and there will be internal changes - especially if we lose big and beat Coastal by a little. But those changes might not be public. 3-9 and the changes will be made publicly - or at least leaked. I don't think 3-9 gets Beamer fired, but it might. I'd say the chances would be 50-50.

Yeah, with all the denigrating of bowls, this team would be over the moon to play in the Metamucil Bowl or whatever. If you can't even attain a "meaningless" bowl, that's a quadruple whammy.

3-9 definitely gets a beamer firing.

A loss to Coastal SHOULD get a beamer firing.

An embarrassing blowout loss to that school upstate SHOULD get a beamer firing.

If the wheels come in the form of a shellacking against Ole Miss and A&M, then losses to Coastal and Clemson, I don't think we'd have a choice.

I doubt it comes to that, but it's absurd to suggest he should still be untouchable in that scenario, as some here have.
