Especially since the Sun Belt and CUSA both like the New Orleans location too - of course I wonder if the American is going to take that bowl from CUSA with realignments.

Dome's schedule is pretty packed

With R+L carrier's bowl, saints games, and the Sugar bowl. Would be nice if the R+L carriers bowl could outgrow its C-USA and Sun Belt ties and take the place of Birmingham or Shreveport on the SEC slate.

Seriously. We have the SEC Championship Game and Peach Bowl in the same town.

Not to mention, an SEC team didn't even play in the 2012 Sugar Bowl.

ETA: ESPN own's the BBVA Compass bowl, so if we were to drop any tie in, it would more than likely be the Independence bowl.

We need tie in with New Orleans Bowl. There is currently two bowls in same city as NC game. NO can handle it.

The real question is this:

When will Memphis get it's **** together and build a new football stadium? Memphis just got into a better conference and I think the chances of them finally building their own stadium are higher now. Hell, Tulane just built one and UAB is planning to build one. They could play the Liberty Bowl there as long as it seats enough, and people won't be so pissed off sitting on the edge of a tundra on Dec 31st in a new stadium.

I went to the 2006 Alamo Bowl (Tx vs. Iowa) and that place is top of the line! Really fun city and always something to do! It would be cool if the SEC was able to pull this off.

The university has looked at it several times in the past 5-10 years but never did anything beyond testing the reaction of alumni/fans. The city isn't going to build one. At this time the city is in the process of deciding to buy Autozone Park from private ownership and that has become a full blown circus.

The Liberty Bowl drops a small school and gains a Big 12 one. The SEC loses its tie-ins with CFA and Cotton since they are now the "access bowls." If we were under the new system this year, we would have Aub/Mizzou and Bama in the semi's, the SECCG loser in the Orange, USC in one of the other access bowls, LSU in the Capital One, aTm in the Outback, UGA in the Gator, Ole Miss in the Music City, MSU in the Liberty, and Vandy in the Texas/Belk Bowl.

There is a good chance we never fill all our bowl slots because we will always have a minimum of 3 teams in the 2 semi's/4 access bowls.

There's also a pool system with no pecking order beyond Capital One.

Here's a breakdown :

Following the Capital One Bowl, there will be a pool of six bowls comprised of renewals with the Outback Bowl in Tampa (vs. Big Ten), Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville (vs. ACC/Big Ten), TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl in Jacksonville (vs. ACC/Big Ten) and AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis (vs. Big 12), as well as new agreements with the Texas Bowl in Houston (vs. Big 12) and Belk Bowl in Charlotte (vs. ACC).

In consultation with SEC member institutions, as well as these six bowls, the conference will make the assignments for the bowl games in this newly created pool system.


"This bowl process gives us the best opportunity to address several issues that impact SEC fans, including the creation of intriguing matchups, the accommodation of travel for fans, reduced ticket obligations for our schools and a variety of assignments to help prevent repetitive postseason destinations," said Slive.
