in all sports except football. In football they agree to play 5 ACC teams each year. That is one unreal basketball conference now.

Notre Dame is the one that needs the football games. They're not making some kind of concession to the ACC that they'll play 5 non-conference ACC football games, they're joining the ACC so they can get 5 games against decent competition in October and November. They're already playing 4 ACC teams in both 2015 and 2016 anyway.

Yep. Five ACC games along with Michigan, Michigan State, Navy, USC, and Stanford means that all the Irish need are two games for a complete schedule.
