While I'm not all that high on Smith, I will say that it is good that there is evidence that we are actually doing a national search.

First Casey, and now this.

I'm like you....not too high on Smith, but still better than Raffo. I could live with him getting the job.

More than can be said for some of the folks being heralded. With that said, I don't think he's the best candidate.

Baylor made some noise that year. They went 2-2 and lost (by 1 run) the game that woulda put them in the championship series. (sound familiar?)

He also beat Pat Casey and Rick Jones (Tulane). But he was Augie's ***** in Omaha that year.

Steve Smith is another Polk and maybe not even as good. He has been to one CWS in 14 years at Baylor. He has had plenty of time to build a consistent winner at a Texas school, I don't care that it is at Baylor. That record is not good enough. I would prefer to see what Raffo could do before hiring a guy that you know will have good seasons, but not quite get it done in the clutch. Cohen should be the choice at this point, period. However, I think Polk's influence could keep this from happening. I have a feeling that Tommy Raffo will end up as our coach and that could be good, however, our program is good enough that we shouldn't have to take that chance.
