Now that Langston is on the team

How do you reconfigure the secondary?

I would try:

FS- Washington
SS- Mitchell
CB- Langston
CB- Anderson

I put Washington at FS because I think he is a little bit better at tackling. If I saw that this wasn't working, I would move Anderson there.

anyone for 10 yards down the field, hell, we saw that against JSU. They are slow, no other way to put it. A saftey like Smith or whoever is always gonna look like the scapegoat by someone watching on tv since they're just the first player someone sees trailing the guy who catches the pass. He and Mitchell had to go out of their way all night to make up for our corners lack of ability to stay step for step with a receiver for anything past 10 yards. Now, that doesn't discredit his lack of skill to break up a jump ball that was just floating a couple of times. No excuse for that at all.

with the team. For some ungodly reason I think that will slow down the reconfiguration at least a little bit.

You guys are dead set against Zach Smith, huh? Does the guy have no redeeming value? Not even at SS?

He's the absolute worst in coverage.
He's one of the worst in taking angles.

And if no one on this team can beat him out, then God help our defense.

First things first. Try a MAN coverage first ("you listening carl?") to see where's the biggest mismatch. Then put him in that spot to see how he does compared to the starter and go from there.
The fact still remains that if you get no pressure on the QB then he will make your secondary look like a pee wee team period. One of the biggest reasons why our secondary was so good in 07 was because of one Titus Brown. Same secondary in 08 (-Johnson) equals a losing season and a fired coach.

Sorry for the thread hyjack

Couldn't have said it better myself.

He's not SEC quality.

I would try to beef Smith up and try him at linebacker. He is a pretty big hitter. Except for the Brandon LaFell incident.

he should have never been in that position if not for Anderson getting left 15 yards back. And what the hell is Anderson looking back at while he's standing on the 40?</p>

upon further review, we blitzed and played cover 2, which should have been a great defensive call. anderson, though, decided to cover no one. it looks like he thought we were running a zone. smith still should've made a better play on the ball - he's supposed to cover his deep half. but it's not all on his shoulders as I (and probably others) originally thought.

that we have a significant number of people "hoping" that we trot out Langston at CB immediately, even though he hasn't practiced once with the team.
