Now that we know what Mullen is going to be making....

...list the programs that could afford him and he'd leave for that could have an opening in the next 2-3 years.

I come up with LSU, UT, and UGA in the SEC, although by making a bowl game this year, Dooley may be in for a while. Richt and Miles are definitely on year to year deals and with Meyer out at Florida, Georgia might be more appealing to Mullen. Florida is off the radar now. Bama will have Saban for the foreseeable future. Ties are cut with Auburn. Petrino is locked in at Arkansas, and everything else is lateral.

Outside of the conference, I think Penn State is the biggest threat by far. Michigan will likely stay away from another spread guy if they get rid of Rich Rod. Obviously, if Tressel left OSU and they were interested, he'd go there. He apparently wasn't interested in Miami, which is probably the biggest program in the ACC. The Big East has nothing that is too scary. Barring Brown or Stoops leaving anytime soon, there's not much in the Big 12. I don't think there is anything in the Pac10 that would pull him out there. Oregon is stable and USC is in bad shape at the moment. Obviously if Notre Dame collapses under Kelly, you could see that.

In summary, I think you worry about LSU, UT, UGA, Penn State, and Notre Dame. And for all those teams, I think Mullen has to put together another 8-9 win season to get on their radar. If he goes 6-6 next year, his hot name fades a bit. Bottom line, getting through the Meyer retirement was HUGE for our program. I am starting to think we struck it rich with this guy.

because it goes deeper than Bill King just saying, "Oh so and so would go there in a heartbeat..." I hate that **** and think it's too simplified.

Mullen has said he likes the recruiting base in Mississippi. He's an energy guy as much as an X and O guy. He's a program builder. I don't think he ever goes to LSU, because they probably won't be looking at a guy like him. Let's face it, they will always sell out and they will always have talent. I think they try to get a different type guy. I don't think he leaves for Tennessee, recruiting there isn't like it used to be. Notre Dame, yeah, he'd go but Kelly will be there awhile.

Georgia is a situation where Mullen could make a big difference. They can pay big, they have the fanbase, they need a shot of energy.

Penn State is his dream job. If they call he's going.

he's right- it's Penn State and Georgia for the foreseeable future

The rest of the programs are probably at least a couple of years from making a change

may all stay away from a "spread guy". They may seeFlorida's recent success with the spreadas an anomaly or a "got lucky with Tebow" thing.UF certainly got worse after Tebow left. Penn State may see Michigan hiring Rich Rod as a mistake, and therefore shy away from a spread guy. I'm also just not sure how far Penn State will go away from a JoePa-like coach, even if they clean house and hire from outside the program.

A lot of the other big time programs (Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, etc) have always run more conservative pro-type offenses. They are (usually)very productivebecause they can alwaysget the top recruits and don't "need to run the spread". You know Michiganwill nowbe going back to a traditional offense after they fire Rich Rod.

I could see LSU going after him or a coach like him, but I'm beginning toworry less and less that UGA or Penn State will. Any school less than those mentioned simply won't be able to steal Mullen away. Don't think at this point even Auburn or Tennessee could.

We may have Mullen for as long as we want. With his raise, Mullen is nowaround the 11th highest-paid college football coach in the country.

They'll take Kirby Smart and this time he'll jump. He's ready to make the break from Saban and his next move will be to head coach.

Right now, I think Mullen is 2 more years and then gone. By then a once-in-a-lifetime gig will be open and available. Would be really cool if he can get us to Atlanta and ride away in a blaze of glory.

as they should. The little guys like us need the spread (or some other advantage) to even the field. But spread = more ball movement = more turnovers. That's why Alabama ran Ingram behind that big Oline last year and made people stop them before they got fancy.
