State went on probation in the 1970's and had to forfeit games over TWELVE DOLLARS? Gillard paid $50 for $62 worth of clothing. The storeowner who was accused of giving Larry Gillard the clothing discount says that he gave the discount to ALL State students, but the NCAA wouldn't let him tell his side of the story. This article is regarding the pressure (or BRIBES) that the NCAA uses to get students to testify against schools. As I've heard about it, State was also screwed by a pro-UM Mississippi Supreme Court. Some of you might know more details.

While it is true the NCAA was only able to document the small and commonly available discount that Larry Gilliard received, They were pretty certain that Coach Tyler was breaking rules all over the place. They were right about that, but could not get anyone to verify it.

I am not saying that we broke more rules than Alabama or Ole Miss, but it was more commonly known. I personally could give specific examples.

The NCAA should be able to put schools on probation without legitimate proof? That's ********, and you know it. I still think to put schools on probation, the Gestapo, er, NCAA should have have hard proof capable of standing up in a court of law. Anything short of that and they can't put you on probation. All this rumor, innuendo, he said-she said, speculation ******** goes out the window then. Sure would have saved us some heartache the last 8 years if this were the case.

"Well, we are sure _____ is cheating so we'll either make some crap up or we'll blow up secondary violations to justify major sanctions." That was their approach with Jackie and that's their approach with Sidney. It's just a crappy way to do things. They ought to have to prove something with tangible evidence before levelling sanctions.

He was handed $1000 dollars in a bag right before the cotton bowl and told Merry Xmas. He didn't even know the guy. I just figured that crap goes on everywhere and would be impossible to prove.
