Truly sad that we cannot rely on do msny of those recruited to have a reasonable sense of ethical loyalty and recognize that there IS more to life snd living than just THEMSELVES. Seems to me that many of these kids suffer from a total breakdown in parenting (guidance snd leadership) from those so ill equipped for the job. And to think, we have several on this site who will find a way to twist the disorientation of the compass within the player(s) to, somehow, be the fault of the Head Coach. The NCAA decision makers also shoulder a significant amount of responsibility through their rulings that have allowed the current chaos. One cannot expect a staff to build/develop a team when the concept of TEAM does not universally reside within those brought to the school for that purpose. College athletics has deteriorated to a play for pay avocation where some are are much better equipped to meet the annual pay out than others. I do not watch Pro Football or Basketball for a number if reasons. Now that College sports is becoming indistinguishable from its Pro relatives , but without certain necessary safeguards built into the Pro version, I find watching these performances far less enjoyable. College athletics is rapidly becoming a dinosaur destined to soon be recognized only through the awards accumulated decades in the past. Maybe we are reaching the point where the monies k to supporting the various tesms might be better used to fund a variety of academic endeavors currently underfunded or nonexistent. Back when I first entered WVU there was a “welcoming” gathering at shich s Professor, whom I would have for a class later in my journey, made mention of classes, if not majors, that some in the audience might choose when/ if they became available. Maybe the time is now and opportunity to introduce some of what he referenced—-‘hike directing for left handed people’, ‘early morning bird calls’, and the ever popular ‘ underwater basket weaving’. All these might be better use of funds than college sports in the future.
