CLASS CAUCUS PROPOSALS

CLASS B DISTRICTS

In Baseball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Soccer, Softball and Volleyball.....District assignments will be based on a serpentine method using the top 28 teams aligned in 7 districts.

CLASS D VOLLEYBALL & BASKETBALL
Class D1 and D2 Basketball would be split into 10 subdistricts instead of the current 12, and increase wildcards for District Finals from 4 to 6

D6 FOOTBALL
Establish a nine-game regular season in Six-Man Football and eliminate the bye week, consistent with the format in the other classes

D6 FOOTBALL
Higher seeded team hosts all rounds up until the championship game, consistent with the other football classes

CLASS D FOOTBALL
Running clock procedures would begin with a 35-point differential and WOULD NOT cease with the point differential is reduced to fewer than 35 points

CLASS D FOOTBALL
Running clock procedures would begin at any point in the game when a 35-point differential is reached, not waiting until the second half as is currently done

In Class D, I would like to see the mercy rule come back like it was in the early 2000s. 45 points and it’s over. If it is achieved before half, the team losing has the option to receive the kickoff after half, if it doesn’t bring the score inside 45 points then, game over.

I like the current running clock better than the old 45 point rule.

No, 35 point and running clock is the way to go. Alot of teams are missing out on Monday JV games. Having this gets the JV to play 1 or 2 quarters in a varisty game. Great way to get kids playing time and experience.

Out west most don’t even have a JV…that’s why they are canceling seasons…

I like the 35 point rule in effect at any time. It would eliminate the 82-6 games.

Na, the 35 point running clock allows a coach to play kids he wouldn’t if it was the old 45 rule.the coach knows he has the whole game ( obviously quicker) to play all his kids now like I said in another post I like the proposal to stat the 35 at anytime. That will help scores from getting ridiculous.

I’d like to see it go to 42 points, and run continuous no matter what happens after it starts. You can also start it in the 1st half as well. Too many awkward situations of whether you should pull starters or not and then the opponent varsity beats up on JV kids

C softball in the spring...
What about teams that bounce between B/C. Scheduling could be a bear... Chadron would lose about 1/2 their games (unless they opted up), most other schools would lose 1/4-1/3 of their opponents.
Plus, good luck with officials. Quite a few are working college in the spring, and you'd also compete with club tourneys.
I'd venture to guess if there was a stud C player on a team they'd go play club rather than HS as well.
Full disclosure, my girls played softball. The spring is generally crappy weather. How about moving up the girls b ball season to mid-November (like college).
Get it done by end of February, and have volleyball in the spring when the weather is not great for outdoor softball?🤷
Softball done by October 15-20th, golf about the same, XC done this week for fall. Unpopular opinion, I know! (I'm guessing club VB would not like this😉)

Just from a logistics standpoint, I can't believe this is even a proposal. Either move all the classes or none (I'm in favor of keeping softball in the fall)

This. I was at a game a few weeks ago and it was 35-0 early in the 2nd quarter. I would like to see it get to 42 and the clock just runs the rest of the game.

This is a dumb proposal IMO. I don’t think it has a chance to pass . As you said it puts the schools that bounce back and forth in class behind the eight ball and hurts others in scheduling

I'd love to see this for teams who have to forfeit their seasons in July because their administration and coaching staff can't count and project numbers. Kids shouldn't be punished for that.

I understand your point. But I am going to play devils advocate here. Would it be fair to the rest of the teams around the state if an already decent team got 4-5 really good players from a school that forfeited their season? Those 4/5 players pushed that said team over the top and they win the championship would that be fair?

Life isn't always fair. Is it fair kids are running out of OPS to the suburban schools? No. But it's for their best interest, I don't blame a kid for that.

Say Sandhills-Thedford had to forfeit, those kids should be able to go play for Anselmo-Merna. That would make A-M even more loaded. Fine with me.

I personally would not have a problem with it. I want kids to have the best opportunity they can receive. If it helps another team win a state title, so be it.

It's not fair when admin doesn't understand their student population and can't see their own participation trends. They need to know ahead of time of they are going to opt down the next cycle or co-op to avoid forfeits. That is not on a kid to decided.

In football it’s difficult with the two year cycle. Ex Oakland Craig last year forfeited the season because they were in the middle of the cycle and they got killed with Numbers. Can you imagine if Joe would’ve opted down in 8 man before the cycle. They would have literally killed everyone on their schedule even if they would have been ineligible. They were a top 10 C-2 team with his son Braylon at QB.

If a school has low numbers or participation but still offer the sport would kids be allowed to go to a neighboring school? I understand this as the school does not offer the sport in any capacity. For example, if a small school does not offer wrestling in the winter, a student that wishes to wrestle could then join the wrestling team of the neighboring district.

That is probably what it will end up looking like. Which is great to give kids more chances of getting involved in other activities.

I don't think the forfeit's will be included in this ruling even though it should.

Could have but Joe thought the were still alright to go. But they had two kids get hurt in wrestling and had another small group that decided to ***** out . I personally think they need to go to a one year cycle in football like other sports. The state sets the schedule now . I think this would cut down on the teams forfeiting.

They couldn’t have gotten a waiver in the last cycle because they didn’t exist.

The exemption teams got was because they had been under 47 in the previous cycle and got a one time exemption to stay 8-man.

Looking back at their numbers for the previous two year cycle, OC had 48. To play 8 man to be eligible was 47 at that time. Could have applied for a waiver.

The competitive equity waiver didn't exist when they had to make that decision. The first approved ones were October of 2025, and their JV only season was wrapping up a that point.

Could have only been based on student count numbers, and I don't believe the 2-year waiver period exists when you first drop. And even then, they would have had to be 47 or lower prior to that year for it to factor in anyway.

Ahhh okay, I was always curious what the exemption teams meant. Thanks for mentioning that.

This is one that should pass with no nay votes.

OTHER (Centennial)
- Allow students to remain enrolled at their current school while participating in an NSAA-sanctioned sport or activity at the eligible closest school/district when their enrolled school does not offer that sport or activity

I'd love to see this for teams who have to forfeit their seasons in July because their administration and coaching staff can't count and project numbers. Kids shouldn't be punished for that.
What if the neighboring school don't want to accept the players? What if the neighboring school, by accepting those 4-5 kids, are now over the enrollment limit? Do they just get a free pass for being over?

Im all for helping those kids out, but there are a lot of unintended consequences involved.

they want them not to count to your enrollment which is crazy and imagine getting 4 best athletes from another school and not having to go up a class, if this passes some schools will have a huge advantage

If thats the case, and your a good athlete at a school with a roster that may not make it, do you have kids trying to undermine their own football program and working against the school so they can go play for another school?

It’s not going to be the case you Have to have no participation.or not . And you can only jump the nearest eligible district. In spite of what @LooseCannon says this will not pass .
