No mention of Chucky Hepburn. I think it will be him, and not the freshman kid, being guarded by Audige.

Hepburn is not shooting particularly well, probably (but not only) because other teams give him a lot of attention. He is the one who can go off for 20+.

Do I dare to consider 3-0 this week? Is it really too much to ask for one upset and two wins against beatable teams?

I'm going to guess that Ty Berry was in the early stages of Covid during the Michigan game. His performance was noticeably poor and below the standard he has established.

Hopefully the guys bounce back from the virus - if they're healthy we match up well against the Badgers and should beat them. Of course the refs were brutal against NU last time we played the Badgers in Evanston, so there's (potentially) that to work around as well.

Um...
Backcourt mate Chucky Hepburn averages 12.7 points per game and leads the Badgers in assists (3.3 per game) and steals (1.9). Buie and Audige will be called upon to check those two.

Thanks for the reminder! I made a mental note to add Chucky when I edited Jason’s story. Then, of course, I forgot. I’ve added him to the story.

Hepburn had a good game against us last year in Evanston while Audige was trying to hold down Johnny Davis.

I hope we modify our defense a bit to cut down on Hepburn and Essegian shooting 3 pointers. Both are in the mid 40s in 3 point shooting percentage. Much better to force them to shoot from inside the arc.

This week could make or break the season and we go into it with questionable conditioning. I would be ecstatic with 2-1 and honestly satisfied with 1-2. The problem with playing "beatable" opponents is they see us as "beatable" too.

Outside of Purdue, just about everyone is beatable on any given night in the Big Ten. There are 11 teams with records between 5-3 and 3-5.

I think this is a good take. Even before the Covid thing, 2-1 would be a pretty decent outcome for the week. I don't think we were ever, Covid or not, overwhelming favorites to win in Lincoln.

FWIW we are 2.5 pts favorites today.

ESPN match predictor has our win probabilities at:

1) WI - 67.5%
2) UNL - 57.9%
3) UM - 91.6%

Clearly these models don't think Covid is as big a problem as I do.

Has it already been noted that our makeup trip to Iowa is scheduled for next Tuesday the 31st? (Per KenPom, anyway.) So it would @Iowa on Tuesday, Michigan in Evanston on Thursday, @Wisconsin on Sunday.

Winning just 1/3 would be a major disappointment. If this is a NCAA tourney contender they need to go 3/3.

You do know how hard that's going to be, right? So much parity in college hoops right now.
Yes.

I’m just doing the math on NU’s NET and other ratings and comparing them to those of these 3 opponents. If the Cats win 2/3, they don’t move much in the rankings. The games after these 3 are on paper, harder. 2/3 are at home and the other is the worst team they will play on the road in the B1G season. So 3/3 should be the target.

By the way, I’m not saying they will win 3/3 or I expect them to.
