I used this scale:<div>0 - did not play due to probation or voluntary removal
<div>1 - lost on first day</div><div>2 - lost on second day</div><div>3 - lost on third day</div><div>4 - lost in the final</div><div>5 - won the SEC Tournament</div></div><div>
</div><div>I averaged each current SEC coach's performance in the SEC Tournaments over the years:</div><div><div><div>5.00 -- John Calipari (4.50)</div><div>2.80 -- Billy Donovan (2.87)</div><div>2.77 -- Rick Stansbury</div><div>2.50 -- Anthony Grant</div><div>2.50 -- Bruce Pearl</div><div>2.00 -- Mark Fox</div><div>1.91 -- Kevin Stallings</div><div>1.80 -- Andy Kennedy</div><div>1.75 -- John Pelphrey</div><div>1.67 -- Trent Johnson</div><div>1.33 -- Darrin Horn</div><div>1.00 -- Tony Barbee</div></div></div><div>*-I'm assuming a Kentucky win tomorrow, but I put the numbers if Florida wins in parentheses.</div><div>
</div><div>If we go all the way back to the expansion to 12 in 1992 (the numbers get skewed if we go back further) and compare every coach who coached in 2 or more tournaments (because interims who only coached once skew the numbers):</div><div><div>5.00 -- John Calipari (4.50)</div><div>4.83 -- Rick Pitino</div><div>3.75 -- Tubby Smith</div><div>3.09 -- Nolan Richardson</div><div>2.80 -- Billy Donovan (2.87)</div><div>2.77 -- Rick Stansbury</div><div>2.50 -- Anthony Grant</div><div>2.50 -- Bruce Pearl</div><div>2.40 -- Lon Kruger</div><div>2.30 -- Eddie Folger</div><div>2.20 -- Dennis Felton</div><div>2.18 -- John Brady</div><div>2.17 -- David Hoobs</div><div>2.14 -- Dave Odom</div><div>2.00 -- Mark Fox</div><div>2.00 -- Hugh Durham</div><div>2.00 -- Billy Gillispie</div><div>2.00 -- Jerry Green</div><div>2.00 -- Mark Gottfried</div><div>2.00 -- Cliff Ellis</div><div>1.91 -- Kevin Stallings</div><div>1.86 -- Richard Williams</div><div>1.83 -- Dale Brown</div><div>1.80 -- Andy Kennedy</div><div>1.80 -- Stan Heath</div><div>1.75 -- John Pelphrey</div><div>1.75 -- Buzz Peterson</div><div>1.75 -- Rod Barnes</div><div>1.71 -- Rob Evans</div><div>1.67 -- Trent Johnson</div><div>1.67 -- Wade Houston</div><div>1.50 -- Ron Jirsa</div><div>1.50 -- Jeff Lebo</div><div>1.43 -- Jan van Breda Kolff</div><div>1.33 -- Darrin Horn</div><div>1.33 -- Jim Harrick</div><div>1.33 -- Kevin O'Neill</div><div>1.00 -- Tony Barbee</div><div>1.00 -- Steve Newton</div></div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>Do these numbers confirm or dispell the idea that Stansbury isn't a good tournament coach?</div><div>
</div>

I just want a coach that doesn't need an SECT championship to get invited to the big dance, that way we don't really need to care about whether or not he wins the SECT everyfourth or fifthyear.
