Now, now. You all know you're inviting black bear growls of how we used to do the same thing. Hopefully they'll have the same result. Sad how they have to travel so far out to get juco players. Aren't there enough in the South to trick into signing?

I mean, I'm no recruitnik but I'm looking at stars and **** and it looks like Ole Miss' class is well above State's.
Granted, I do think Nutt is getting a little desperate and it's evident by taking these JUCO guys.

B/c by looking at the commit lists, Ole Miss' high school commits are:
4-Stars: 7
3-Stars: 13
Now here's State's:
4-Stars: 3 (one of them is Nick Brassell)
3-Stars: 18
Unranked: 1
Someone who works for one of the Rivals/Scout sites also told me that "Nick Brassell is more committed to Ole Miss than Justin Bell is."
So, again, how exactly is Mullen handing it to Nutt in terms of high school recruiting? The death knell for State's class will be if/when Brassell commits to Ole Miss with the possibility that P.J. Jones and Tobias Singleton will, too.
But like I said, I'm not a recruitnik, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

well at the mississippi/alabama allstar game didnt we have like 10 commits there while you guys only had 2
that was the beginning of the end for the kang.......hope history doesnt repeat itself.....we need nutt to stay
We've only signed 4 juco guys that I know about (1 DT, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 QB) while another S/OLB juco commit won't be eligible so he'll not sign. We would take the WR Denham out of LA Harbor, but I doubt we get him. I think we are done at 4.
I think you guys had a higher recruiting class for the last 4-5 years, but not that many of them made it to campus or stayed to graduate. I think it shows with us beating ya'll the last two years with Crooms recruits.
guys that make up that ranking don't stick. That has been the case lately for the bears and it is taking a toll. They still have good talent up there and should have had a good year with their schedule. The coaching staff has to take the blame for the season they had this year in my opinion.
The only reason Bears have such high stars is because UM fans buy more recruiting magazines and Website subscriptions than State fans.Virgil Caine said:

Vanderbilt can take a bunch of 2 star Sun Belt rejects &, most years, beat an Ole Miss team full of 4 star "can't miss" studs.
I have close to zero knowledge of recruiting this year, I used to follow recruiting pretty closely but it hasn't provided the same enjoyment for a couple years now. But my guess is... and this purely is a guess...that we are winning more of the MS recruiting battles in which both schools are highly involved. Especially considering we are dipping into some OM stalwart areas (like madison and south panola). We both have good classes (right? i don't know) but in head-to-head recruiting battles, MSU seems to be winning the majority.
Again let me reiterate my lack of knowledge of this years recruiting because I'm sure I could be completely wrong. But i think the best way to answer this question is for someone to compile a list of players that MSU has committed whom OM has also strongly recruited, and OM commits that MSU has strongly recruited. Then compare and contrast. For all I know, this could show that OM is dominating MSU in MS recruiting.

How was the Nutt year 3? It's amazing how those awesome Nutt recruiting classes contributed to this year's success, isn't it? Way to build on those back to back Cotton Bowls! I remember at the beginning of the season someone posted about the attrition of the Bear's recruiting classes and here they came. Bears coming in to defend how much quality "contribution" they were getting from those classes despite the attrition. Stupid 17ers! The results speak for themselves.
It's subjective, but as someone else posted I would be highly pissed if we were to swap classes today. According to the recruiting sites, you've kicked our *** in recruiting for at least the last 5 years in a row (I'm not checking back any further) by an average of 17 spots in the rankings. We all see how that's turning out for you.

Also, these recruiting sites inflate players star ranking based on the number their of subscriptions. If school A signs a player and that school has 50,000 subscriptions then the player receives 4 stars vs school B signs the same player but only has 25,000 subscriptions they that player on gets 3 stars. That's just how it works, it's all about money. The star rating system is all subjective and flawed to the core.

It boils down to recruiting philosophies. Nutt, at Arkansas, was the only game in town. He could get whomever the hell he wanted and fill in out of state. I think he recruited a lot out of state players when he was Arkansas, which would lead one to believe that Arkansas does not produce a lot of SEC caliber talent.
Since coming to Ole Miss, Nutt focuses on out of state cast offs and fills in with in state prospects. Mullen's philosophy is the opposite. He focuses on in state players first and looks to fill in with out of state cast offs. And by cast off, I mean a player from Florida or Georgia that does not have a commitable in state offer.
I do not think there is anything wrong with Nutt's philosophy nor do I entirely buy into Mullen's philosophy. Stars dont mean ****, especially when your higher rated prospects do not even make it to campus or get kicked off the team for whatever reason. It all boils down to player assessment, both in terms of on the field potential and off the field potential.
