During Mullens speech he listed all of Dixon's stats and records. When Nutt got up ha said, "I could stand up here and just tell you a bunch of stats but I'm not." Sour grapes Houston?

I've heard from numerous posters on this message board that Nutt is above that sort of petty bickering and jabbing, so I know it to be true. Not to mention, what stats could he possibly be talking about? Anthony Dixon is the first player from the state of Mississippi to lead the SEC in rushing since 1967. So WTF kind of stats would Houston Nutt be talking about???

Right before Nutt made his petty comment he said "Dexter McCluster is (blank) rushing yards and (blank) receiving yard from being the only player in S E C history with 1000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving." Looking forward to beating you in YOUR house next year Houston when you don't have a player like McCluster to save your season.

Don't underestimate the effect of them losing Shay Hodge either. He only lead the SEC in both receptions and in receiving yardage. They're going to be seriously hurting on offense next year and they have some significant defensive losses as well. Trust me, the Rebels will be a LOT less cocky a year from now than they are today, much less than they were last week.

Times were good in those days. Mullen must have been getting under their skin for a year now. Before they lost the Egg Bowl they could ignore it and act indifferent, not so much anymore. With Mullen rallying the troops Nutt won't be able to downplay the Egg Bowl anymore. He will actually have to deal with a real in-state rivalry now.

where he is not the ONLY school in the state. I don't think he was/is ready to be under the scrutiny of 2/3 of this states college football fans against him (i'm generically splitting up the college football fanbase equally between MSU/OM/USM). I almost think that he didn't realized how hard he was going to have to work (not just coach) in a small state with with a rival SEC school and another Div I school.

I don't know much about all his troubles at the end of his Arkansas tenure but I'm sure it would have been ten times worse if he had a heated instate rival fan base to deal with.

I can see Dan's excellent work ethic in all aspects of the program along with this years Eggbowl debacle giving Nutt some problems. Hell, he doesn't even have 1 Mississippi kid among his commits for this year thus far. I know, I know, Ole Miss doesn't want MS kids anyway. Nutt is a good coach but I'm very interested to see how he handles his peripheral coaching duties (PR, recruiting, etc.).

the fact that they lose at least three, possibly four of their o-linemen and the one that comes back is Sowell. They also lose their TE, who was essentially another o-lineman.

Of course, that doesn't bode well for the run or passing game either.

came from Florida, where they have FSU and Miami as rivals probably helped him out. Look at the momentum that Florida has gotten by owning FSU for the entire Urban Meyer era so far.

Dan was a part of that, and I think he saw and understood how important rivalries are.

Geralds has applied for another year. Orgeron kept terrible records of his injury (he played less than 10 snaps his freshman year before being injured). It's 50/50 whether or not he is going to get it.

Massie and Sowell will both be back at tackle (Massie started the second half of the season when they moved Jerry to Guard). Rishaw Johnson will be back (he started three or four games this year at RG). If Geralds gets his extra year, our O-line should be okay. I'm not sad about losing Neely, but we will miss John Jerry for sure.

Our biggest fall off won't be the O-line. Our secondary is what really has me concerned. Orgeron gets hell from Ole Miss fans for not recruiting O-linemen, but he really did a terrible job getting just bodies in the secondary.

That's not quite correct. Massie has started the last 4 games I believe at RT with Jerry sliding down to guard.

We have two X-factors on the OL that are going to be key to next season as well. The first is Geralds trying to get his medical redshirt. I doubt it happens given the fact that his injury wasn't documented by the previous staff, but it's possible if the NCAA decides to use common sense, which is a stretch. Also, the other X-factor is Rishaw Johnson. He was slated to be the starter at RG this year, but he was in and out of trouble all year and only started 4 games I believe. Discipline issues, not talent, were his problem, so that's a big question mark.

If he straightens up and Geralds can return, we'll have 4 OL back that started at their given position. If not, it's 2 with Massie and Sowell.

We're definitely going to be rebuilding next year, but I'm looking forward to it. We'll get to watch the future, and I feel like we have some good young athletes that will get their chance next year.

The problem too many of our fans have is that they've bought too much of what the Arkansas fans are selling. Too many of them have had this unspoken belief that we needed to do something big these first two years, because they secretly buy the "Nutt can't recruit" line. That's simply not the case.

Nutt took Arkansas to 5 bowl bids (3 NYD bids), 2 SEC title games, and 4 seasons with 8 wins or more, in Years 4-10 at Arkansas. We had a chance to be really good this year if we had some players step up at positions where we had losses, but those players and that depth didn't prove to be good enough. I fully expect by 2012, we'll be in better shape depth wise than we were this year, and we may have a better overall team.

If Orgeron were still around, Rishaw would probably be gone already. Fortunately, Nutt understands his depth chart and has given Rishaw some extra leash given the state of our OL for 2010. We have some quality young OL on the team, but I don't expect to see most of them ready until 2011.

Bruiser to the rescue! What a crock. You aren't looking forward to sucking any more than any other fan of any other team would. I can assure you that sucking is no fun, having just emerged from an eight year stretch of unparalleled sucking. You won't be able to "watch the future" because you will be so pissed off at how bad the present is. Now, I doubt that you suck as much next year as we did for most of the 00s, but I will be honest for a moment: I hope you do.

I don't think he was/is ready to be under the scrutiny of 2/3 of this states college football fans against him

Yeah, that is a good point. However, he had at least half of the Pig fan base (which is basically 90% of the population in the state) on his *** during his last two years. He upset the Pig fans during the recruitment of Mustain. He was not open about it and almost dismissed any questions about the recruitment of Mustain. Meanwhile, the Pig fans worshiped the kid and followed him all over the state watching his high school games. Then when he reluctantly signs Mustain and brings on Malzahn, he does not start the kid. WHich I don't blame him. However, it pisses off the Pig fans even more. Then when he runs off Mustain and Malzahn, the Pig fans went bat **** crazy on him.

So, he knows what it is like to have half the state against him in that sense. I think the guy likes it too.

As we sat there watching OM kickoffs go into the endzone while we kicked to the 12, I realized the will have Ritter 3 more years. Had we taken him their special teams would have been in real trouble after this year. As it is though.. they'll be fine forcing opponents to start at the 20.

Shene has been a good kicker. And if I'm not mistaken he's the guy Orgeron found on Scout.com by looking for the best kicker in the nation who was not committed to a school when that staff arrived in Oxford. It worked out for them.

Vandy and KY at home plus 3 gimmes in the OOC and a very winnable fresno game is 6.

You get us at home so that's a shot at 7.

Auburn, at TN, at Bama, at LSU, and at Ark will be extremely difficult though so I think 7 is the ceiling.

Their whole damn team is gone.

If Mallett decides to go pro, that game gets a lot more winnable too. Who knows what Auburn will do. They still don't have a QB and played poorly away from home.

I'm sure we will screw up and lose a game we should win and then turn around and win one we should lose. Next season in the SEC is very hard to read.

Same exact garbage being spewed by rebels. We won't miss Oher/Wallace/etc. If your line regressed that much by losing Oher (and maybe one more guy), how much is it going to regress by losing Jerry and Neely? Ya'll won't even be able to gain 100 yards against Memphis.

and I still think we win six or seven games.

I think we beat Vandy, Jacksonville St., Tulane, and LA-Lafayette for sure. That's four wins.

Out of Fresno, UK, State, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee we winn two or three. That's six or seven wins.

It's too early to do too much guess work on this anyway. There are still a lot of questions. If you guys don't sign Newton, how good is your offense? How good is Newton anyway? Todd is leaving Auburn, who plays QB? Does Mallett go pro? What the crap does Tennessee do in the first place? They are looking at starting a true freshman QB according to a lot of UT fans I know. Can Snead bounce back? How bad is our secondary going to be?

he was a great O-lineman. We won't miss Neely.

Those guys you mentioned are starting and playing in the NFL. John Jerry will probably be in the NFL too. Reid Neely isn't going to be anywhere near the NFL. He wouldn't even make an Arena league.
