Ole miss would have been at least 6-6, prolly 7-5 with msu's schedule. Would have won the same games that msu did (swap UT for UK), plus OM might have won one of GT or Houston at home.

Kind of a pointless argument, but at the time we played them, I don't think Ole Miss was playing well enough to beat Houston or Ga Tech. McCluster might could have gained 500 yards by himself against Houston, but at the time, he was not getting the touches. The reality is that Ole Miss was at times the 11th best team in the conference and at times they were probably the third best, so it's even more pointless than usual to speculate as to who they would have beat.

It's real simple why Snead regressed. He lost Mike Wallace, leaving him one real receiving threat instead of 2. Plus, without Wallace, the safeties could cheat on the shorter routes, and the middle of the field wasn't as open. Also, he lost 3 O-linemen, and the pass protection was a lot worse this year than last.
Agree the OL hurt Snead this year, althought he OL for Mississippi has been adequate - just not the superstar thing that it was last year.

I'm not sure losing Wallace hurts Snead that much given his habit to stare down WRs. If you're gonna stare down your WR, it doesn't matter what the other WRs are doing. Its not like you're going to pick & choose who to throw to as the play develops.

he brought them a lot of wins, and for whatever reason, they grew tired of him. The Mustain situation hurt him, as their fans thought it better to side with a kid who can't get off the third string at USC behind two freshmen than their winning head coach.

Nutt is a damn good coach, and he'll win consistently at Ole Miss. And you are a fool if you think otherwise.

Nutt indeed is a good coach. But, he is also up and down. He had some really good years at Ark and some really bad years at Ark. He also is like other coaches - he wins when he has freakish talent - Matt Jones, McFadden, Jones, some of the Ark OL, Oher, Jerry, McCluster, Snead, Wallace, etc. I just think this year that he underperformed, and they obviously did not do a very good job with a QB that has all the tools in the world.

is going to be up and down in the conference. And Meyer will be a bit down next year.

There will be Bama and Florida fans bitching about Saban and Meyer(sp?) if they aren't both undefeated and headed to Atlanta again next year. Texas Tech fans are ticked off at Leach this year, yet they are 8-4(5-3) and I think went through three quarterbacks. Not to long ago, Iowa fans were fed up with Ferentz.

People are stupid.

And you could make that same statement about the majority of teams in the SEC not named Alabama, Florida, and Vanderbilt.

The difference each week was primarily match ups and only partially teams having up and down games emotionally. We pounded Arkansas and Tennessee and beat LSU. Arkansas and Tennessee both pounded SC. Arkansas pounded MSU. MSU and SC both beat us. It's a simple case of what one team does well matching up with what the other does poorly and vice versa. I knew Arkansas would likely roll on you because offensively they were a nightmare match up for you. I also said you'd probably give us a really tough game beause offensively you were a nightmare match up for us. That's the way it was in the SEC this year, and that's why you have 9 teams scattered between 3-5 and 5-3 in league play. All of those teams had flaws, and it just depended on how many teams you played that were capable of exposing your flaws.
