Cashman is horrible. He's the problem, not Boone. When they talk about the Yanks needing a change in organizational philosophy, they're talking about Cashman.
Boone has his flaws, but he's no better or worse than other managers. Remember how Dave Roberts was ripped for losing in the postseason so often? Now he's a genius now that the Dodgers front office put together better teams for him to manage.
Cashman has a decades-long track record of bad trades, bad free agent signings, an inability to properly assess talent, and a penchant for putting together one-sided teams (i.e., great offense-weak pitching or great pitching-weak offense).
In no other sport, with no other team, does a GM keep his job this long. Almost 30 years now he's been GM.
You think I'm always pissed off over the Yankees and complaining about them? Check out these quotes from yesterday by ex Yankees. Fans aren't the only ones sick of this "run it back" regime.
“[Judge] was like, ‘There’s a standard that’s set here, and we didn’t meet that standard,'” Sabathia said on the Uptown Sports podcast. “No disrespect, but they don’t know what that standard is. You know why? Because there’s no one in there keeping that standard. Once Gardy left, it’s been a wrap.
“When I first came, it was Ron Guidry, Reggie Jackson, Mickey Rivers, Willie Randolph. It was not only the Core Four; it was those guys too. So you knew what the standard was, because the standard was sitting in the [expletive] room right next to you. The guys ain’t there no more.”
“If you talk to people there, Yankees fans, people on the inside – they almost think it’s insanity,” Rizzo said on his ‘Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered' podcast. “Like, we just keep on doing the same thing every year and we don’t win. That’s insanity; that’s the definition of insanity, if you think it’s going to change.”
Alex Rodriguez, in his role as a FOX analyst, suggested a change in organizational philosophy is necessary.
“If something doesn't change, you're going to have the same results,” Rodriguez said. “We've been watching the same movie for over a decade, and nothing changes. … It’s getting late.
Cashman does better work as a GM than he is given credit for....and if the Yanks were to ever part ways with him he would have a half-dozen offers from other teams immediately.....but this is part of the stagnation problem plaguing the Yanks.
A new voice has to come from somewhere.
