I like Goldschmidt and he is really hitting lefties well but I think long term it would be better if Rice was the every day first baseman. I realize Wells has really regressed / slumped at the plate but I don't like seeing Rice having to catch.

Rice's natural position is catcher, that's what he was in the minors. First base is a learning experience for him. Goldschmidt is just a one year player for the Yankees so next year things will be more concrete concerning catcher and first base.

Ben Rice is a ballplayer. He just has that look with how he plays the game.

Nice win tonight in St. Louis. Encouraging start from Gil. After the disastrous debut in Miami, Bednar has been really good in the Closer role.

Wells with a great frame job to get an important punchout for the 2nd out of the 9th. Bellinger made a couple of defensive gems at 1B and in LF.

And he has been the most unlucky hitter this year. He stings the ball quite a bit but right at fielders. Last week during a game I think David Cone said he was the top player in MLB for having hits taken away by above average defensive plays and barrelled up balls hit right at fielders at FIFTY. Wow!

It was funny the other night when he got a single and a bunch of players in the dugout was making finger signals at him and he was confused trying to figure out what they were doing. My wife said he looks like a little boy. lol I said well he's not very old.

The inability to hit with runners in scoring position is going to kill this team. They were lucky to win last night.
Shows you al the more that this team has to hit home runs to win. They are a terrible situational hitting team. I knew when Judge came up twice with the bases loaded and 2 on that he would not come through. Hit into a double play and a ground ball to the shortstop to at least plate 1 run.

Looks like Michael Kay has joined my camp again. He sounds just like me every night.

The Yankees suffered another tough loss Wednesday night, falling to the Minnesota Twins, 4–1, in what was their eighth lost in their last 12 games.

Arguably the most questionable move made by manager Aaron Boone in the loss was turning the ball over to Yerry De Los Santos in the sixth inning of a tie game. De Los Santos isn't one of the better relievers in New York's bullpen, yet Boone elected to bring him out in an important spot, and he paid the price.

De Los Santos didn't record an out, surrendering three runs before exiting the game, and the Yankees went on to lose.
On Thursday, Yankees announcer Michael Kay delivered a fiery rant about Boone's decision to go with De Los Santos, ripping into the manager for failing to adapt to the game situation and sticking too closely to a pre-determined plan.

"I don't know why they went to De Los Santos. Aaron explained it after the game, 'Well we felt it was a proper lane for him'–Stop! Who's your best pitcher? Who's the better pitcher that you can bring in? Every single pitcher in the bullpen was available last night? Who's your best? Who's your best to pitch the sixth inning?" ranted Kay on his ESPN radio show.
"People have to wake up. The season is slipping away. It's slipping away. You're tied in the loss column with the Cleveland Guardians. You're tied. And the Texas Rangers... they're breathing down you're neck," he said, before delivering a comical impression of Boone.

It's a fair assessment of the Yankees' recent woes. The team has effectively been in a prolonged slump since May, and Boone has failed to get the team out of it.

It's odd to hear Kay ripping Boone....makes you wonder if the Yankee/YES executives are putting him up to it?

I don't know, 92Heel. Michael Kay grew up in the Bronx and is as die hard a Yankees fan as there is and does a good job for YES not being a total homer. I have heard him repeatedly attack Cashman, Hal, and Boone on this radio show over the past several years and I am have been in agreement with most of what he says on this talk show and I'm glad he pulls no punches.

Back when the Yankees had an infield of ARod, Jeter, Cano and Teixeira I thought all four of those guys were going to the Hall of Fame. I was looking at their stats today. I did not remember that Cano was suspended for a season for PEDs. That was a great infield. Tex may still get in.

You are right, he is good at not being a homer....sometimes I do wonder if someone puts a little message out to say something. He is the best in the business for sure.

They should all be in the Hall. One of the best offensive infields in Yankees history, not too shabby on D either!

Once again Boone pulls the starter after 4 2/3 innings at the first sign of trouble. How are these pitchers ever going to build some stamina and confidence to advance past the 5th inning if he keeps yanking them? And then the pen has to go 4-5 innings and Boone is crying the next day about the pen being over worked. smh

Ned to take care of TB. They have been a thorn in our side for a long time.

I don't know if the Yankees can get on a roll and run down the Jays or not but a long winning streak is way overdue. Several teams this year have had double digit wining streaks including Toronto, Seattle, and now Milwaukee, so why can't the Yankees? That is what it is going to take. It won't happen but it would be nice. lol

Unless the Jays go in the tank I don't think we can make up the 5 games over the next 38. Is it possible sure but not likely probable. At this point I would just like to finish ahead of the Red Sox in the wild card race and grab either the 1st or 2nd WC.

I do think we are due for a hot streak and we have won 5 out of 6.

After watching Rodon struggle with sweat in the 1st inning I didn't think he would be around long. Surprised he went 6 innings. As I battle health issues in my old age, lol, I turned in early. Only watched 4 innings. Couldn't believe my wife watched the whole game and filled me in on the highlights this morning. Got to keep this train rolling. Yankee have historically followed up a big offensive output with a poor offensive output.

That 3-2 cutter in the 7th to the Rays clean-up hitter from Schlitter….that looked like Gerrit Cole pumping 99 after 99 and then throwing the perfect strikeout pitch

Win.

Judge’s arm has to get healthy enough to be able to play the field to get Stanton in the lineup. Stanton has rather quietly been an absolute stick at the plate since coming back from the elbow issues

I was actually thinking right before he gave up the game tying double that I really like Bednar. He has some real grit to him on the mound and by that I mean he is one of those that just keeps coming at the batter. He blew the save last night but I feel a lot more comfortable in general with him on the mound than many of the others.

I still feel good when he comes in despite last night

And with Williams.....if he would throw twice as many fastballs as he does change-ups....it would do wonders for him. He's got great life on the fastball but he throws wayyyy too many change-ups

One thing that the front office doesn’t get enough credit for is making the team MUCH more athletic and way faster on the base paths over the last two years

Volpe and Dominguez are home grown speedsters
Chisholm and Caballero are steal threats any time they are on and brought over via trade
Bellinger can swipe a base and really smart on the base paths
Rosario is currently out but he has some wheels as well
Judge and Grisham aren’t speedsters but they are very smart base runners

Massive change from the plodding team of just a couple years ago

So the hated Bosox come to town and the Yankees suddenly turn into the Bad News Bears. No excuse in being 1-6 against Boston. And this bullpen is just in shambles. So Cashman goes out and gets yet another reject reliever. I'm tired if him trying to build a bullpen on hope instead of getting some real accomplished players. Hoping all these relievers suddenly turn it around with the Yankees has not worked for years now and Yankees fans deserve better. Williams and De Los Santos are a joke and I'm afraid Weaver was just a flash in the pan as he has never regained the form he had for 2 months last year. His slight build is not good for constant pen relief night after night.

The Yankees have the easiest MLB schedule the rest of the way and they need to take care of business, including starting tonight with the Bosox.

It pissed me off that Jazz couldn't put a ball in play. Typical of the Yankees all year and don't forget they left the bases loaded in a previous inning. McMahon swung at ball 4 that would have walked in a run. Comes with the territory. They depend on home runs to win and when they are not getting them they seldom do situational hitting. I turned it off after Weaver came in and he immediately got hammered and gave up a run.
