Huge game this week as someone will lose a spot in the conference standings. Salisbury D and OG offensive line will be the most interesting matchup.

Looking for a great game with the winner putting themselves in great position to win conference with only Ledford remaining for both teams.

Thoughts?

Yes... this game is quite important. Winning it is going to be a big boost because of the 4/5 top teams (OG,ND,LED,SAL,TVILLE) someone is going to knock someone else off that isn’t expected.

I worry a bit about OG vs speed. Last night their defense struggled a little bit with the mobility and quickness of the SRowan quarterback. (Although the score doesn’t really reflect any kind of struggle)

Salisbury is by far the fastest team in the league. Their DL isn’t very big but they are very athletic which makes them hard to block. The DB’s are fast and can cover up receivers to force the run. The LB’s are big, fast and fly to the ball. Probably will come down to whether OG’s outstanding RB can be effective against the LB’s and can OG block #9 (supposedly going D1).

OG May get some passing in, but not likely to beat Salisbury deep so they will have to throw it around and see what they can get. The Salisbury offense isn’t flashy, but can control the ball and has lots of speed. Can OG contain all that? Going to be a good game.

I'm just copying what I had in the week 7 thread so I don't have to type it again.

It sounds like Salisbury has the D but will struggle to score points on Oak Grove. Should be fun to watch. I think Salisbury has to hope for a 10-7 type game because I don't think they want a shootout. Oak Grove is averaging 48 points a game to Salisbury's 19. Salisbury is only giving up 3 to Oak Grove's 7.5. Can Oak Grove turn it into a shootout, or will Salisbury be able to make it a grind?

Somewhere in the middle. Don't you just love style matchups in football lol?

I think Oak Grove wins by 2-3 TD's. Salisbury struggled with West and Central. Oak Grove looks like front runner and really not anyone close.

North only lost to them by 6. I wouldn't say no one close.

I'll take Oak Grove in this one. If the "O" line for Oak Grove can win the battle up front, Salisbury could be in for a long night.

Let me rephrase that, nobody left in front of them and to be honest if North makes it far enough to play them in playoffs I think Oak grove wins again, North losing QB really has affected them.

I think either one or both of them will be playing in the west this year. I can’t wait for projections to start rolling in, because I’m too dumb to figure all of that out. I just know the line was really close to Welcome last year.

If either of the teams go west, the 3rd round is the best hope. One or both could very well go home after one round in 2AA west.

I'm afraid you are right. 2AA West is a murderer's row compared to the East.

Oak Grove is averaging 48.3 ppg and giving up 7.5 ppg against a pretty easy schedule. Their toughest opponents are North and Central Davidson.

Salisbury is averaging 19.2 ppg and giving up 3 ppg against a pretty easy schedule. Their toughest opponents are North Rowan and Jesse Carson (unless Thomasville is better? I dunno)

Oak Grove has piled it on against some pretty bad defenses and Salisbury has shut down some pretty bad offenses. Personally I believe both units are for real but something has to give. Oak Grove also has a pretty good D in my opinion and it comes down to them containing the Salisbury speed. That is an interesting matchup, perhaps even as much as the OG o line vs Salisbury D.

I’m interested in seeing the JV game on Thursday. I’ll probably head to Salisbury to check it out.

I have seen film of Salisbury and West when they played. Salisbury lost 3 fumbles in the 1st half I think and West was able to stay in the game. Their first points were a FG because they recovered a fumble in Salisbury territory and they have a great kicker who kicked like a 40 something yard FG. The other points were from a trick play WR double pass which got them down inside the 5 yard line. Other than that, West probably didn't make it past the 40 yard line.

I say this game will come down to coaching and maybe turnovers if Salisbury can't hang on to the ball. OG pulls it out in a close one 17-14. Holcomb is very methodical in his play calling and offensive game plan so I think that will be the difference in the game.

Oak Grove will be near the cut line....I will be working on projections soon but using last year's ADM numbers.....where Oak Grove is one that we KNOW will have a MUCH higher ADM than last year....they are the only one that will be listing in 2AA and totally ignoring last year's number

The SHS vs Central game last week was more about the Salisbury drops and Central chewing up time than anything. I believe if that game is played again the score for SHS is much different (not to take anything from Central, they played their hearts out). I realize Lexington is way down but the 28 put up on them in 3 quarters was very quickly on the way to being 2-3 touchdowns more. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see OG score more than the average against this Salisbury D but I would be shocked to see anyone beat them by 2-3 scores. I keep seeing posts about the team speed. That is present (as it always is at SHS) but not what makes this defense great. There is a combination of speed and football IQ. The linebackers are both very intelligent kids with a great understanding of the game (Walker is the son of the Catawba head coach). They have some "dogs" up front who just want to disrupt things. They have a back end that is very well coached, has length and speed. This isn't just a bunch of athletes simply running things down. These are athletes with vision and purpose. Saying all of this I also want to remind all that we are talking about two teams full of 14-18 year old kids. If anyone can predict accurately how they all react under pressure each time I would like to buy the first 10 copies of your book.

Sorry for the long post fellas. Just spewing a week's worth of thoughts. Regardless of outcome I can tell you that those of us here in the 'Bury absolutely love this group of young men. There is a buzz around here that I haven't seen since '10 (not at all saying this group will do what that team did). Look forward to the drive up north...where do I eat!?

By both linebackers I am speaking of the headliners Jalon Walker
(#11) and Jabril Norman (#12).

Go into Lexington and eat at Don Juans. Great Mexican food and not to far back to the school. Or go into Thomasville and eat at Tommy's or Rosa Maes on National Highway and its about 15 minutes to Oak Grove.

This week has me wanting to be like Michael Keaton in Multiplicity. I need to be in two places at once!

I'll probably end up going to Thomasville but if the game is a dud (and I don't think it will be) I'll scoot on over to Midway to check it out.

These two have had two common opponents, Lexington and Central.

Oak Grove won those two games by a combined score of 101 to 15.

Salisbury won those two by a combined score of 38 to 0.

It looks like the edge goes to OG, but none of that matters if they can't score on Salisbury. Can't wait for tonight.

I think Holcomb is too good of an offensive coach for OG not to score much. I think OG pulls it out in a close one 21-14

Didn’t make it up to the game (work gets in the way of a good time) but it seems to me these have been two very evenly matched teams with the difference being the early fumble in the end zone by Salisbury and missed extra points. Sounds like OG is about to put this one away. Hate I missed the game.

Salisbury's D is really good. As stated above, without the fumble in the end zone and the missed extra points, you have essentially a tie game late in the 4th.

Teams are going to learn not to kick to Blair (#20) for OG. Salisbury had made it a one score game late in the 3rd (maybe early 4th) and Blair took the kickoff to the house to flip the momentum and put OG back in the driver's seat.

Salisbury has speed and is disciplined on defense. I can see why their fans are high on them.

My take away. Salisbury Defense is pretty darn good. They only gave up two scores. Special teams and defense hurt them. Salisbury Offense is very below average. Got belled out by penalties, and one missed assignments big run. Oak Grove Offense can run the heck out the ball. Their pass game is very below average. Salisbury stacked the box and played with no safeties. Oak Grove struggle with that at times. But OG RB belled them out a few holes. OG Defense is pretty tough. OG kicking game will hurt them soon or later. OG played what a coach would consider the Hat Trick Game; 2 offensive scores, 2 defensive scores, 1 special teams touchdown.

Hate I missed this game lol. Would you say the game was closer than the score? Congrats to Oak Grove. They have pretty much got the new rivalry from Ledford to worry about but will be favored in all their remaining games.

Yes it was a lot closer than the score looks. OG last TD was on a desperation throw out of the end zone by the Salisbury QB straight to the OD DB.
