You don't think immigrants should be vetted? I can promise you that my grandparents had to put up with MORE requirements than anything we see today. And I don't think we had NEAR the terrorist threat back in their time.
I think we should be at the forefront harboring refugees in as large of numbers as possible. The USA is not the beacon we hoped it would be to the world. We need to return to a more caring attitude for world issues....not the opposite.
I think the vetting should be fair and focused on actual connections to terrorism. My man still hasn't described "extreme vetting" and how it differs from the practices that INS already employs. If he has, I haven't heard it.
The influx of immigrants in past and for my grandparents was ALL about needing workers and had nothing to do with humanitarian ideals. Do you remember when we refused the ships filled with European Jews?
One of our nations worse moments....along with allowing Nazi aggression throughout Europe. Nationalist sentiment is a bad thing, but we don't learn from history do we.
You don't think they're being vetted already? Your second sentence just shows the ignorance of the process typical in so much of the populace at large.
And the formation of the colonies, America, and the national identity has always been about humanitarian ideals. It's always been about providing a haven for the people of the world. It's who we are at out very core.
Yes I agree that a lot of the populace is ignorant of the immigration process as it pertained to Ellis Island practices vs.what it is now. Since you appear to be up to speed on the differences maybe you can enlighten the rest of us poor fools.
