Obama said he will use his influence to create such a system.</p>

"If you've got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there's no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system," he told reporter Steve Kroft.</p>

According to Obama's proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.</p>

"It would add three extra weeks to the season," he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. "You could trim back on the regular season. I don't know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."</p>

sure they already do it to a degree with the shared revenue from bowls and the tourney, but I think they could do more. We don't have near the resources of Florida or Alabama or Tennessee. I think they should be forced to give us part of their athletic budgets. That would only be fair. Also I think Vandy and us should be allowed to pick three players each from their rosters. I say we get a qb and kicker.

see the need to meddle with sports? First you had the steroids with baseball- somewhat legit since it involved illegal drugs, then you had the guy who wanted to get involved in the Patriots videogate scandal, and now you have got John F Obama wanting to FORCE the NCAA to have a playoff?

The problem, besides the fact that he's telling the NCAA to do something that is against their Constitutional right by telling them how to run their business, is that he doesn't know all of the dynamics to NCAA football. There is a ton of money tied into these bowl games, which I guarantee he has no idea how to redistribute, then you have to consider that the colleges have to move the team, the band, and the cheerleaders, as well as all of the other University officials and staff. Whether people like it or not, or agree with it or not, there's a reason why there isn't a defined playoff for football. Otherwise it would have been done long ago.

is no different than you or anyone else saying.

He's not telling them how to run their business, he's just stating his opinion.

that he was going to use his position as President to force them to have a playoff.

That's what I have a problem with.

Perhaps I misunderstood.

That was probably said in jest, though (or at least I hope so).

But the man can part the waters. I'm sure getting the NCAA to agree to a playoff will be small potatoes.

Cut the season back by two games? Do away with the SEC and other conference championship games? Do away with the bowls?

I don't have a problem with a playoff- whether it's eight teams or a plus one, or whatever, but some of his ideas are horrible and would really take away from college football for me.

I don't think he is forcing anyone to do anything. And you could still use all of the bowls so that money would keep going where itis now. Just make the top 8 bowls your playoffs and the rest could be used as they are right now.

I think it will be much harder for schools like State, and OM to get into a bowl...Plus, if you take eight teams and put them on a pedistal, other bowls are going to want to pay less $.

However I'd like to see a four team play off.

There are already 8 teams put on a pedestal with the BCS, and the other bowls dont want to pay less. Just take those BCS teams and make a play off out of it.

and then take the conference champions in a playoff. That is legit. That would give the SEC, Big 12, ACC, and Big 10 ( 10 to 11 games per year) and the PAC 10 - 9 games. Take 2 more at-large bids and there is your top 8. That's about as simple as you can make it.

is that the SEC could be decided by playing more teams that are not in your division. But I actually agree- it would be neat for everyone in the SEC to play everyone else in the SEC, of course that would also end a lot of non-conference games, unless they went to a 13th game.

already be underway. Whats the hold up? It has to be money...
Delta State plays an eleven game schedule...pre playoffs If we in D1 all had to cut back to 11, what would that cost? lets see, some 60 games D1 wide times $.......how much.
Also if we had to play 11 rather than 12...custs down on our chance to win the magic 6 games (to get bowl elgible).
To me it's the money, ....or some how a loss of control....I still think the overall bowl system would suffer(thus the concern by the current sytem about $)
Do you have another reason they are not having a playoff?

... First: John McCain & Barack Obama appeared @ halftime of a Monday night NFL game right before the election.

Apparently, one of the questions asked of Obama (I didn't see it, so I don't know exactly) is to name one thing he would change about sports.

Obama said: "Create a real play-off system for college football."

Fast forward a couple of days ago on the Mike & Mike radio show: One of the Mikes asked Herb Herbstreit what he thought of Obama's idea to create a play-off system for college football.

Herb Herbstreit said, while he admires the president-elect's concern & knowlege of college football's biggest flaw, a play-off system will never happen. NCAA football, said Herbstreit, is too driven (as in financially & politically driven) by the conferences.

Herb Herbstreit said the best you can hope for in the near future is a BCS 2 team play-off; Herbstreit then went on to address the hypocrisy of the NCAA "cigar boys" who claim a college football play-off will take away from players' academics, etc.

So, it's not like Obama has dropped everything to insert himself into a college football play-off discussion. Obama was asked his opinion on it & since Obama sorta hit a nerve, it spread.
