The media keeps asking "what if Trump is making all of this up just to smear Obama?

They really are fools, just like the one they are trying so desperately to cover for.

Obama does have a history of going after those who he feels are a risk. James Rosen was a hideous example claiming before a judge that Rosen was a co-conspirator in a crime.

"Critics said the government’s suggestion that James Rosen, Fox News’s chief Washington correspondent, was a “co-conspirator” for soliciting classified information threatened to criminalize press freedoms protected by the First Amendment. Others also suggested that the Justice Department’s claim in pursuing an alleged leak from the State Department was little more than pretext to seize his e-mails to build their case against the suspected leaker.

“It is downright chilling,” Fox News executive Michael Clemente said in a statement. “We will unequivocally defend [Rosen’s] right to operate as a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”

Steven Aftergood, director of the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists, said, “Asking for information has never been deemed a crime.”

He nearly arrested a NY Times reporter, James Risen, for refusing to name a source. His DOJ getting a FISA warrant to tap Trump Tower's computer does not surprise me at all.

Don't forget also PAX, that former CBS investigative reporter Sheryl Attkison claimed in her book "Stonewalled" that she believed her personal computer files as well as her phone had been "compromised" by Obama administration officials upset with her reporting exposing their corruption on both Benghazi and Fast and Furious....among other scandals.

So in my mind, the only thing we don't know is whether Obama gave direct orders to spy on the Trump organization, or if it came from a general consensus among his political supporters that it had to be done in order for them to dig up dirt on him (Trump) so they could use it later in some way to discredit him.

I am convinced he at least knew of and approved of such operations, even if he didn't explicitly give the direct order to listen in on the Trump people. We've seen the evidence of their using leaks to try and discredit Trump, and I am convinced Obama and his entrenched bureaucratic minions are deeply involved in all of that.

They've pretty much admitted to it.

Great point. Completely forgot about the government hacking of Attkission's computer while at CBS. I watched former AG, Michael Mukasey, this morning and he believes a FISA warrant was issued for something or someone (s) at Trump Tower.

If so, would obviously be unparalleled action. I think a Congressional investigation is now highly likely. Huge Hewitt, on MSNBC this morning, said the paper trail for such a warrant would be a long one.

Here is Mukasey's comments:

Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey on Sunday said that President Trump is likely correct that there was surveillance on Trump Tower for intelligence purposes, but incorrect in accusing former President Barack Obama of ordering the wiretapping.

“I think he’s right in that there was surveillance and that it was conducted at the behest of the attorney general – at the Justice Department,” Mukasey told ABC’s “This Week.”

Trump on Saturday accused Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower in New York City just before the November election.
A spokesman for Obama denied that the former president or the White House ordered any such surveillance.

"A cardinal rule of the Obama Administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice," Kevin Lewis said in a statement.

"As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen," Lewis added. "Any suggestion otherwise is simply false."

Mukasey, who served as the attorney general under former President George W. Bush, said he believes there was surveillance on Trump Tower after reading certain news reports.

Mukasey said if there were a wiretap on Trump Tower, it would mean that there was suspicion someone had been acting as Russian agent.

"It means there was some basis to believe that somebody in Trump Tower may have been acting as an agent of the Russians for whatever purpose,” he said. “Not necessarily the election, but for some purpose.”

Interestingly the "denials" from the Obama camp are being carefully worded to exclude only his direct "ordering" of any such wiretaps. They are not categorically denying that there were no wiretaps or surveillance, or that at least a FISA warrant was never requested.

Telling.

It wouldn't be hard to find such evidence, and Senate intelligence committee chair Tom Cotton said on Fox News Sunday this morning (the only one I watch) that his committee will also now include this question (Trump wiretapping) as part of their broader investigation into possible Russian collusion with the Trump campaign to influence the results of the election.

I think they're likely to find more damning evidence of the wiretapping, and possibly who was behind it before they find much if any evidence of Trump having the election gears rigged in his favor by Russians.

This from the NY Times:

"Obama administration aides also spread classified intelligence related to possible Trump campaign contact with Russia around the government, TheNYT reported Wednesday. The effort centered on leaving a trail of alleged evidence for government investigators to follow."

The FISA Warrant would certainly fit into this narrative. They needed information to "spread around" to delegitimize Trump and a tap at Trump Tower would be pure gold.

I have little doubt when all of the investigations are complete, that the Russia for Trump story is bogus, but the counter surveillance on Trump by either Obama or Dems will prove to be legit.

This week the Intelligence agencies will disclose the transcripts to the Senate Intelligence Committee of any conservation had between anyone associated with Trump and the Russians. Both Chips Coons, a Dem and Senator Cotton, a Republican, said that in briefing thus far, no hard evidence of collusion exists.

It may well turn out that the biggest story in all of his is not Russian collusion with anyone on Trump's campaign but the bugging to Trump Tower. This may completely backfire on the Dems that the NY Times reported left behind "clues" to be leaked to the press to discredit Trump.

Agreed. Your scenario is much more likely.
