I'm not completely offended at the idea as most people will be. But man, we're going to need some lineman real fast to make that offense work.

McNulty fits what he wants to do and knows what the expectations are, and pretty much ensures Artur and Blackshear don’t transfer, though nothing is ever 100%.

Joe Brady is going to have much better offers than Rutgers, but yeah, if we could get him, that would be great.

How do we know what he wants to do Al? We last saw him as a HC 8 years ago and he spent three years watching Urban's spread. Maybe he's a spread devotee now.

There’s historical precedence, as head coach, that shows what he wants to do. Any notion of him being a spread devotee is speculative.

We don’t have the personnel at Rutgers to run Urban’s spread, especially quarterback, where we have two prostyle QBs on the roster and another one incoming. Artur isn’t at Rutgers to run Urbans spread. So do I see him blowing up everything just so he can run Urban’s spread? No. I think inertia favors running either a pro style or a hybrid thereof such as what we did this year. I’d hate to see the kids having to learn yet another offense when the issue isn’t the scheme, it’s the lack of talent, especially on the lines. I think we can show success more quickly if we can simply upgrade the talent on the lines.

There’s historical precedence of what Les Miles did and what he’s doing at Kansas now. He’s running a more wide open offense now and has gone through 3 OCs already in just short tenure. One left to be a HC, the second was fired and the 3rd and current Brent Dearmon was on staff from Bethel where he was HC last year and had the highest scoring offense in football 50+ pts/gm. There’s no way to know what GS will do.

I've mentioned Joe Brady here a bunch of times and have said there's a good chance he'll be the Broyles winner this year. Until OU's lost to KSU good chance between Brady and Grinch but now if LSU keeps rolling I'd say Brady has the inside track. His impact on their offense is astounding.

That being said he's not coming here and maybe not anywhere. I've mentioned in the past if Aranda left for a HC spot maybe Brady might go with him to be OC but really that's not likely either. He's PGC now technically but he's de facto OC even if Ensminger has the title and I'd expect if there's any threat of him leaving Orgeron would make him OC and "Aranda" him as in huge bump in salary. Aranda is at 2.5M and highest paid assistant in college. I don't know about highest paid but for sure a huge bump for Brady.

I really can’t see McNaulty coming back under the circumstances, but if he does it says that (1) Schiano really likes him and (2) Schiano thinks Hobbs knows nothing about football.

As to names no idea how exactly how realistic these may be:

Kevin Wilson....not for money but just to be the guy as Ryan Day calls the plays and Mike Yurcich was brought in as PGC.

Sean Gleeson...salary only 550K and former Princeton OC

Kevin Johns....if Norvell gets a better spot most likely will go a long with him but if not he's been OC under some very good offensive coaches and in the B10...under Wilson at IU, KK at TT and Norvell at Memphis

My obligatory Leach tree guys lol:

Graham Harell....Helton is likely to be fired and transitioned USC from pro style and helped Littrell transition UNT from a pro style and develop undiscovered true freshman Mason Fine...offense ranked in the 100s year 1 but then 20s years 2 and 3.

Eric Morris ....current HC of Incarnate Word....former Leach assistant and OC from KK at TT...IC was a 1 win team before he took over and he got them to 6 wins and first ever FCS playoff appearance with big improvements with their offense

Bill Bedenbaugh.....would be a first time OC but highly respected OL coach for Leach, Holgersen and Riley..has put a bunch OL in the NFL...content if things stay as they are but sees OC as a means to be HC some day

ANYTHING, ANYONE says in regards to what he plans on doing is speculation. For you to say hiring Mcnulty ensures Art and Blackshear don't transfer is also speculation. You or anyone else on this board have no idea what their plans are or whats in their heads.

And that's a false assumption that an Air Raid coach is just chucking around all over the place. Leach is the purist form of it and he does but not all of his progeny do and many of them tailor it to their personnel. I've posted about this here before and an article about the Leach tree guys in the Athletic. Air Raid isn't x/o ...chuck it all over the place...it's more philosophy of KISS and having identity.

BTW...Lincoln Riley's offenses at OU ranked 27, 11, 11 in rushing in his 3 years as HC there. Ok State is 8 in rushing this year...you think they're gonna waste Chubba Hubbard throwing it all over lol. Ohio State 4. Toledo 12. UCF 16...Tulane 9. Just because you're a spread team or Air Raid guy doesn't necessarily mean you're chucking it all over. Kevin Wilson's IU teams weren't chucking it all over either.

Speaking of Tulane ...Will Hall is another young OC who is having a nice impact on them. Fritz wanted to change the offense because it wasn't performing and Hall has come in and got them in the top 20s in total/scoring offense. Fritz is also a guy who wants to run the ball.

If anybody but GS brought him back this board would riot, not me as I don't do that lol, but many others so GS bringing him back should be seen in the same light as any other HC bringing him back. I wasn't enthused when Ash brought him in and wouldn't be enthused if GS brings him in.

Best part, he's had to defend it every day in practice. **** has to be better since last go around*** yes, not good/ great. but has to be better.

No way in hell it is McNulty, that doesn't make a lick of sense since he was just fired. Why would we want him back and why would he want to come back?

The notion that Rutgers should select an OC to retain players on the roster that aren't playing, and who when they were with said OC were part of several shut outs, is flat crazy.

That would be a decision made for several wrong reasons, including ignoring the game in 2019. How do some not realize that at some point even Saban -- with their recruiting at freaking Alabama -- changed his whole offensive philosophy because he no longer felt he could win with what worked in the 2000s?

Because too many people do not follow college football or any trends. You can easily tell by what they post. They only know Rutgers and nothing else.

Al, so did Nick Saban until all the teams he saw were running some sort of spread and moving up and down the field. Now he runs a spread. So there is almost no chance that McNulty comes back(there maybe other reasons he was fired besides lack of offense) as GS will go with an OC who runs a spread attack.

BTW with regards to assistants and the budget...caveat to say don't assume everything will be smooth just because of the bigger budget. Plenty of coaches have big budgets and still don't work or have trouble.

Just like having a big budget for an AD hiring coach is helpful...the AD still has to identify the right guy. Same for HC and assistants...big budget is helpful but still have to identify the right assistants.

Like I said above see Miles with 3 OCs already, not that he had a big budget but has the name. Orgeron fouling up his first 2 years at OC before taking the recommendation of Joe Brady, Matt Luke was given a big budget as Ole Miss part of the benefit of hiring the unknown/unwanted and he hired Longo and former HCs Rich Rod/Mike Macintyre and he still hasn't done anything special at Ole Miss yet. So big budget helps but still got to be the right people.

The only time he coached the OL was at Ithaca in 1999.

schiano wants to run the ball 30-40 times and play action. That doesn’t doesn’t sound like an air raid offense to me.

it just so happens the players on the roster fit the philosophy of what Schiano wants to do, which is run first. He’s not junking his philosophy just to do something completely different from what he’s been doing all these years. Could I see him hiring Kevin Wilson and running the spread, sure? Would I bet on it? No.

at the end of the day, we likely end up with a hybrid, so I’m not worried about it.

If we run a pro style we ZERO chance of success. He can't be that dumb or thick headed.
