His UVA teams were always very good in the fundamentals. I think I read a stat that they had the best average fielding percentage in the ACC over his time there.

Also think our situational hitting is going to improve with McMullan. We may not hit as many homers as we did under Lemonis and Gautreau, but I think we will generally feel like our clutch and overall hitting is better.

Very interesting. He and Tim Corbin are a lot alike in how they interact with the players. I also like the fact Coach O emphasizes hitting line drives vs a HR type swing. If you really try to drive the ball into the gaps, the HRs will certainly take care of themselves. When you focus on hitting the ball out of the park, then you get more pop-up outs.

Had the opportunity to sit behind the dugout and observe and listen during the La Tech game back in the fall. I was extremely encouraged to see he was barely checking the block as far as being in the dugout and not being on the field, and he was extremely engaged and taking notes. Not only talking to players but coaching them as well.

I like him. He's a hell of coach and my kinda guy. The only thing he might want to work on is getting gerbiled up. Mice can start scratching and cause infections.

He's relentlessly positive. Not sure I expected that, but I'm glad to see it. I'm sure he can knaw azz when needed.

You said O’Connor will be the best ever. No doubt we have high hopes for his success, but you obviously are young and don’t know you Polk-ology.

I met a man who coached HS baseball in New York City, consistently the city championship winner. He used Polk’s book as his bible of how to be a good coach. Polk is a legend to those who know baseball. He might not have won the Natty, but he got us there time and again. He also brought other coaches to their championships, too.

Best ever, I hope so, because I have witnessed ‘pretty damn good.’

He’s a better coach than Polk. It’s not close. The records speak for themselves.

Huh? We hire a coach who’s had more consistent success than we’ve ever had in our programs history at a school with less resources for baseball & I’m being emotional when I say he’ll be the best coach we’ve ever had?
Yeah saying any new hire is gonna be the best coach we’ve ever had before he’s ever won a game is an emotional high.

Hiring coaches isn’t a 100% guarantee. EVER.

Nothing is a guarantee but some hires carry more reason for belief and expectations than others. We have a ton invested in BOC so that tells me we are planning on him winning a crap ton of games here.

Ok? I agree but saying he’s a guarantee to be the best coach ever at MSU is idiotic.

Saying that anywhere is idiotic but particularly at msu.

The difference is Lem was slovenly, slow, and fat and BOC is thin, fit, and has a bit more pep in his step.

They both seem a bit too soft with the players.

I guess they don't make fire-spittin' hard assses any more.

The 1970’s and 1980’s version of Ron Polk would be hard to beat. We didn’t win it all but we were contenders on a regular basis. We always had a team that we could be proud of and our program was known and respected Nation wide. He put us on the map.

Even that is overrated by our fans. We had several bad years in that time. And the SEC was really weak conference back then. But O’Cinnors record is still better than 70s & 80s Polk.

So almost like every other really good program over a 15 to 20 year history?

I honestly have no idea what you’re trying to say here. But if you really want to look at 70s & 80s Polk. 4 CWS appearances with 0 finals. And missed tournament completely 4 times. Damn, you’re not even a good troll.

I bet you can’t find more than 3 or 4 programs who missed the tournament less than 4 times over a 20 year period.
