I bet you can’t find more than 3 or 4 programs who missed the tournament less than 4 times over a 20 year period.
It was a 15 year period. And Gene Stephensen Wichita St missed 3 from 1980 to 2009. Mike Martin at FSU didn’t miss any from 1980 to 2019. Texas didn’t miss any from 1979 to 1996. Ron Fraser at Miami didn’t miss any from 1973 to 1992. That 4 with fewer misses Combined over a longer period.

So it’s really hard to do right?

noticed you didn’t reply to the other post regarding that gurantee.

Even that is overrated by our fans. We had several bad years in that time. And the SEC was really weak conference back then. But O’Cinnors record is still better than 70s & 80s Polk.
Perhaps so, but look at the resources we had back then vs what we have now. I loved the old Duty Noble, but it wasn’t much compared to the advantages a baseball coach has at State now. Polk managed to do a whole lot with very little money and resources. That man worked his a$$ off to put us on the map. I have nothing but respect and appreciation for everything that man did for us.

The resources then were comparable to or better than most college baseball programs.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for O’Connor. I am excited about the future as well. However, the man hasn’t had his first game he yet. I think he’s going to do great but give Polk the respect he deserves. At State he won 1,166 games. Went to 15 regionals, 6 world series, and had 5 SEC championships. Like most I realize that Polk was not as effective in his later years. That’s part of life. I’m not as good at most things as I was 40 years ago either. I hope O’Connor wins a bazillion games here but I won’t forget what Polk did for us that literally makes our expectations possible. If you do t agree with me, that’s ok but we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

O’Connor has been to 7 CWS in fewer years, with a national championship & a finals series loss.

Yeah, Polk was good. Couldn’t finish the job tho. O Connor has shown he can.

I just watched this surfing YouTube. Y'all know my thoughts about college baseball, so the following is from a pretty non-homer or non-maroon glasses perspective. I’ve been pretty involved in another sport on another level for about four decades now. I’ve watched a bunch of coaches in practice and games over that time. What I saw in that video is what you want to see. Enthusiasm and being able to notice and pay attention to detail, game or practice, are pretty much THE two marks of a great coach in my opinion. I realize that video is propaganda from the athletic department, but if that is a fair representation, you niche sport lovers may be in for a treat.
